Re: Strong Cold Front & Low: 7th - 10th June

First chance to post since the mayhem that unfolded Wednesday night. Have been on the go with SES for five days with the cleanup and requests are still coming in. Needless to say absolutely crazy winds Wed night/Thu morning. After attending a few tasks in Wandin it took around 2 hours to make our w...

Another blob of weather inbound by the looks?
So there is! Nothing at all in our forecast? I guess the blob must be due to move directly due north and miss us?

Re: Strong Cold Front & Low: 7th - 10th June

It's residing in 9C Gordon, though after 4 hours on the chainsaw, it felt like 30C! On a side note, a mate in his 40s sent me a video of his property near Khancoban at approx 300m asl, covered in snow yesterday morning. He's lived there all his life and never seen snow settle there before. (And Sydn...

Re: Strong Cold Front & Low: 7th - 10th June

Looking like a monster system on latest GFS and ACCESS too - might be a case of, 'be careful what we wish for'. :o A bit eerie how the models are aligning a week out. Prophetic words if I do say so. I like a good storm, but this one was a real battle with nature - and likewise right through other p...

Re: Strong Cold Front & Low: 7th - 10th June

Shocking night, still howling, trees down everywhere and roads closed. No power since 10pm. 30mm overnight making 52mm for dates, although like HB, I'm sure the gauge has missed a lot of what has mostly been horizontal rain.

Re: Strong Cold Front & Low: 7th - 10th June

Probably the worst wind I've experienced in 25 years here. No anemometer or internet-accessible one nearby to conclusively back that up, but the house is getting absolutely blasted head on; rain going up and under the front door and into the house by sheer force. I was in a house on the Great Lake i...

Re: Strong Cold Front & Low: 7th - 10th June

All over here. Blue skies and the rain is all East of us. 12mm and that's it. Maybe, but these wrap arounds do weird things. Don't think Ben Nevis was down for 51mm. Meanwhile 15mm to 9am brings us to 22mm for the event. Not looking forward to the forecast wind; we're on a hilltop at 620m and face ...

Re: Strong Cold Front & Low: 7th - 10th June

7mm to 9am, and some quite heavy rain since though I haven't rechecked the gauge.

Really hard to read the radar - keeps looking like rain is clearing, only for it to keep coming down! Good start and cold but not snow cold at 5 C. (Lake Mountain cams show decent snowfalls... so far.)

Not often you see cold front as defined as this - you could run a ruler along it! (Rainbow Radar a few minutes ago):

Re: Strong Cold Front & Low: 7th - 10th June

Nice Tas totals! Hope there's a bit more to come over the next few days, especially for poor old Hobart.

Meanwhile, most models have shifted the action west again. Gippsland still the epicentre, but central and west central (us) are back in favour.

Re: Strong Cold Front & Low: 7th - 10th June

Looking like genuinely cyclonic winds over parts of Gippsland/ NSW south coast late Wednesday into Thursday on the BOM 4 dayer?

Re: Strong Cold Front & Low: 7th - 10th June

Another 3mm here from mainly drizzly showers.

ACCESS looking huge for our area this week, 90mm plus. Other models are back to a more modest 20-50mm. Regardless, Gippsland is certainly looking like the epicentre.

Re: Strong Cold Front & Low: 7th - 10th June

2mm to 9am here, and a mm since.

Our BOM rainfall forecast for the dates has reduced a little; range is now 22mm - 60mm (vs 28mm - 80mm yesterday).

13mm overnight. Quite a surprise.
Good to see! 6mm here was more than I was expecting and some places nearby cracked 10mm.

BOM now saying anywhere from 28 to 80mm here next week...

Re: Strong Cold Front & Low: 7th - 10th June

BOM certainly bullish https://www.weatherzone.com.au/news/bom-says-light-snow-could-fall-in-queensland-forecasts-average-temperatures-this-winter/534233 for 'cold power' element. Unusual for them to acknowledge exceptional weather this far out. ACCESS & GFS still looking impressive too for the syste...

Re: Strong Cold Front & Low: 7th - 10th June

EC is getting very excited. Huge low, starts cold then wraps in some milder Tasman Sea air. Still too far out to be confident about details. Looking like a monster system on latest GFS and ACCESS too - might be a case of, 'be careful what we wish for'. :o A bit eerie how the models are aligning a w...

Re: Trough and Front - 25th - 27th May

We're finishing on 99.5mm for May. (I was hoping a magpie might sneeze in the Nylex and bring it up to an even 100mm, but not to be!) Well above our May average of 72.4mm even so. YTD is tracking nicely at 325mm vs average of 276mm. May minimums have been 0.5C below average, maximums 0.5C above, so ...

Re: Trough and Front - 25th - 27th May

-0.1 currently with the 4th frost for May. I don't think I've ever seen that happen in May. Some exceptionally cold starts about, no doubt about it. All the more remarkable because it doesn't coincide with a particularly dry May. BTW those Canterbury floods in NZ are scary. MetService says its only...

Re: Trough and Front - 25th - 27th May

Coldest May morning in Melbourne for 71 years, and extra impressive given the urban heat island effect would be significantly greater than when the previous record was set. Absolutely bitter night here with a stiff south-easterly accompanying low single figure temps - quite unusual for us to have th...
