I drove from Mt Macedon to Canberra today. The countryside is looking horrific. Not as bad as the start of 2020 but it's def getting ugly.
Although, the ground was wet at Chiltern when I had a break. Must have had a storm there.
We had 3.5mm at Mt Macedon overnight into this morning.

24° at Mt Macedon AGAIN! It's like some kind of hellish ground hog day. Still 19° at 10pm.
Heat and dry is wrecking the autumn colours here. Trees colour up and then they straight away go crispy and brown. Hasn't deterred about a million tourists coming out here to look at brown foliage, dead grass ...

Seems like all of southern Vic is trending towards drought, the past 2 years. I suppose timing is right for a drought too. It's been 'wet' since 2011 (so 14 years). Previous to that, the millennium drought lasted for about 15 years (from 1996ish to 2011).

Yes true in some areas. Ive still had average rainfall or just above average at my place over the last two years.

Yeah, it's foul. Day after day of monotonous dry, sunny weather with way too much warmth.
A drought period in Southern Vic is well overdue. Good rain since about 2010. Bound to change soon and turn back to hellish drought conditions like the late 90s and first decade of the 2000s.

Sounds like hell. Hate late season warmth, especially when it has been so dry. It will likely wreck any potential for good autumn colours in the garden.

Nice rain today, more than I was expecting. We've had 8mm since yesterday and 20mm for the week since last Sunday.
This time yesterday it was 29° here at Mt Macedon, today it's 9°!

We ended up with a round two last night that took our total to 45mm.
Ecstatically happy with that! I was not expecting anything.

So happy to get a good storm with plenty of rain.
We've had 25mm so far and still raining.
Top temp today 32°.

Haha! I remember that February 2005 day very well as the only summer day that I enjoyed in my fourteen years of living in Prahran. It poured and poured. Was absolutely wonderful. All the other summer days were just hot dry and desolate.

I've had 33mm at Mt Macedon. Very very welcome. This time yesterday it was 30° , today it 9°! So refreshing.
I had 915.5mm for 2024. That's about 100 below average but still very reasonable considering how low it was elsewhere in the state.
