VICTORIA STATE FORECAST

SYNOPTIC SITUATION

A weak trough of low pressure across Victoria will contract eastwards overnight and during Tuesday as the next high pressure system quickly moves to be over Tasmania. The high will move into the Tasman Sea by Wednesday, as a trough and cold front approach Victoria, reaching the southwest of the state later in the day. The cold front and trough will cross the rest of Victoria overnight and early Thursday as the next high pressure system moves into the Great Australian Bight on Friday.

MONDAY NIGHT

Mostly cloudy, though partly cloudy across the north. Areas of light rain and isolated thunderstorms over the southwest and central regions, easing to isolated showers this evening and mostly clearing. Generally light to moderate winds southwesterly winds extending across western and central areas, although remaining light over the north. Seabreezes about the Gippsland coast easing. Gusty winds with any thunderstorm activity.

TUESDAY

Isolated showers clearing from the east during the morning, then a fine and generally partly cloudy day, sunny across the north, until isolated showers and possible thunderstorms redevelop over the eastern ranges during the afternoon. A warm day with light to moderate easterly winds, more east to southeast in the south, freshening about the coast during the afternoon.

WEDNESDAY

A fine and mostly sunny day at first. Cloud increasing from the west during the afternoon with isolated showers and thunderstorms developing and extending to central areas by the evening. Shower activity tending scattered in the southwest at night. Minimal rainfall over eastern regions. A very hot day throughout with moderate to fresh north to northwesterly winds ahead of a milder southwesterly change reaching the far southwest later in the day.

THURSDAY

Mostly cloudy across the south with scattered showers, becoming isolated later. Generally fine over the north with isolated showers clearing and partly cloudy conditions. Mild to warm with fresh southwesterly winds, locally strong at times.

FRIDAY

Partly cloudy across the south with isolated showers over southern areas contracting to the east and clearing during the day. Fine and mostly sunny over the north. A mild to warm day with light to moderate south to southeasterly winds.
