Well, Treasurer Wayne Swan has delivered his third (and possibly final) budget.
12 months ago the Government was reacting to the GFC with huge stimulus packages etc etc.
This budget is aimed at Health, Hospitals & Tax as well as rapidly reducing the budget deficit.
Some key points/items:
* $7.3b Health & Hospital reform package
* Resource (or mining) tax
* Deficit will be only 6% of GDP, which is small in comparison to UK/USA and most parts of Europe
* Continued funding to battle Climate Change.
* Unemployment rate to drop to under 5%
* $25b to be spent on defence, but only $18m to battle terrorism.
A reasonable budget, but the following have not been addressed.
* Additional child care places
* Solution to housing affordability
* No universal dental health plan, which is quickly becoming a national disgrace
