April 23-25: stronger front and possible low

Post by hillybilly »

Thread does the coming week with a strong front which might might briefly form a low near Tasmania. System looks mild and quite windy initially, but has a nice slot of cold air behind it. It’s not tapping tropical moisture so won’t be a big rain event, but hopefully pretty widespread 10-25mm for TAS, and shower for coastal SA and Victoria. Some snow on the alps as it clears.

Progs dropping the low, but still a sharp front. Unfortunately the faster movement means rain will be less, and mainly confined to the usual wet spots.

Hoping to see at least a few mms here after just 1mm in the past two weeks.

Will usher in a spell of showery westerlies.

Big gusty wind change coming through here, packing quite a punch. Up to 5mm so far.

After a mild Tuesday, a much stronger front than I expected. Punched through last night with a big temperature drop and powerful winds. A few branches down, 12mm of rain and now 5C.

81.5mm mtd is way above our 60mm average for April.

Stronger here than expected too. 15mm all up. The wind has calmed down a bit and it's even sunny, for now at least.

16mm mostly overnight, with a few leftovers so far today.

Very healthy April total building for us now.

Very handy 7mm here. Couple of spots locally got near 15mm, but overall delivered around 5-10mm. Great little system for northeast TAS with a few spots around an inch.

Dusting of snow on Kunanyi and quite a heavy fall on Ben Lomond.

Now back to southwesterly to northwesterly stream weather. A stronger front on Sunday might break the pattern for a period.

Bleak here this morning. Stream showers in our favoured southwesterly flow. Looks like we’ve had about 3mm but expect we’ll add to that.
