Low at 10am was significantly deeper than forecast (1003 hpa vs 1006).

First showers of the system here are inbound.

Southern Rural Water have started releasing water at a rate just under minor flood level, probably to create a 10% buffer. For Maffra, the average of the four models on WZ for this event have gone 93 - 66 - 72mm over the past 3 days. There is certain to be at least moderate flooding in some Vic regions from this.

I just got back from chasing a cell that had a black core at Kyneton ( Now the rain blob west of Wallan at time of writing). The plan was to intercept the storm at the Marsh or Myrniong as it tracked SE, but it virtually stopped west of Kyneton and developed a more ESE track instead of SE. I returned to Gisborne to take pics at which point it died. I originally thought of heading up the freeway toward Kyneton but a black core and a large hail warning changed my decision to stop at Gisborne. Saw / photographed some interesting structure which I will post later.

Despite full cloud cover for hours, thunder is rumbling around us regularly now, and the rain is coming down at a steady to heavy rate.

My view, full on wet day west of the city tomorrow, dry in the east with showers very late in the day (don't take this view as gospel, it is just how i see things and could well be different)

Huge downpour here, with 74mm yesterday evening. Just relentless very heavy rain for around 6 hours and plenty of embedded thunder and lightning too.

We’ve since added another 5mm overnight. The low is currently sitting around northwest Vic with some hefty rain bands on the radar. Will be a wet morning for many of us.

Happy Christmas!

Already over 50mm. Strong Easterly winds, driving rain, and not very pleasant. Very much an 'indoors' day.

Some places approaching 100mm around Maryborough.

Just shy of 45 mm for us in Mansfield with constant falls overnight which is twice what I was expecting based on model guidance. Looking like significant bands of storms moving down from central NSW into Vic NE and central. Interesting day ahead for many of us.

Still thinking 50/50 chance of a continuous rainy day for Melbourne, going by the radar. Could well be fine most of the day. Current rainband seems to be dissipating
