Looks like a productive spell of westerlies ahead with a front and low on Wednesday followed by a front a day til next week. Will add up in southern Victoria and western Tasmania, with lighter falls elsewhere. Temps should be cool enough for some snow in the alps. With cold air and fronts often timed during day light expect the odd rumble, though overall the system is pretty moisture starved.
Looks like a wet 24 hours for much of VIC with the first part of the system. Showers for western Tas, but not a whole lot through the east. A good follow-up system for those who scored last week. Funny how Victoria keeps flip flopping from dry to wet to dry this year. A lot of luck involved. Most the rest of Oz is just seeing days of heat and dry. Quite nasty fire weather on the northern side of the low with fire warnings posted.
System for the weekend looks cool to cold and showery with some further snow on the alps. Won’t stick for long, but always good to see.
Yes, models seem to have upgraded for this system(s) and will hopefully prove to be a good follow up for last week's great falls. Not seeing a warm or dry day here for at least a week now.
Solid band of rain here today, an excellent consolidation of last weeks rain. Haven’t checked the gauge yet but feels like we have done better than the local aws.
Easing off now, but suspect it will remain showery for the rest of the day.
Good follow up event for central and Gippy but litte if any for the rest of the state
Hail and some thunder and lightning about and more later arvo before easing.
Then about 3 or 4 days of showers for south and mount Vic adding up to another 20 to 30mm for know wet spots in SWly flow
No hot weather till late next week even that looking brief before more cool weather next weekend
Oct shaping up to be much colder than Sept in Melb lol
11mm today. Most of it fell during the rain band and then a few more mm with the showers. Pretty much on par with the model forecasts, maybe a touch more overall. Either way, very welcome!
Yes totally agree Pengaz, 111 mls here in Lilydale, only half way through the month and double the previous 3 months already, very happy with this, coming into bushfire season.
Finally scored a half decent event down here with heavy showers with brief hail for Saturday. 12mm so far, with more to come. Climbed Mt Wellington earlier and was some have decent spells of blizzard conditions, though not sticking too well with warm sun and warm ground.
Another front for late tomorrow should keep things ticking over.
Couple of photos of the weather around South Wellington.
16mm for the last 24 hours here. A bit of snow visible on Snug Tier this morning, so settled to about 700m. Slightly milder today as a low in the westerlies is thrown northwest towards VIC and TAS. That system looks quite wet for the usual wet spots (Otways, Yarra Ranges, western Tas) but showery elsewhere. Quite a cold system.
Progs firming on a big low for this time next week.
