Tas temps today: Friendly Beaches 19.3, Fingal 18.6, Hobart Airport 18.3,St Helens 18.1, Hobart 17.6, Launceston 16.9. Hobart average temperature first 11 days of June 14.2 degrees. Long term June average 12.0
Looks like mainly a northwest and northeast system to me. Northcentral might also do very well. Suspect falls will peak in the 50-100mm range which is notable for June which rarely throws up big totals. Bit to fast for us in the south and upslide isn’t great. Should still see 20mm here, but with a tweak would have delivered a good 50mm.
Bit of a shame to see a once in 20+ year humidity spike pass through and not quite have the forcing to deliver here
Back to winter next week if the latest EC verifies
Great to see it’s still fairly widespread, especially in the north where rain is really needed. I don’t think we’ll fare too well here with the strong north westerly, which tends to produce a sharp rain shadow this side of the ranges. It’s already very windy, with gusts above 40km/h.
Happy to miss out here so those in the W, NW, NC, NE, can score and enjoy a real solid widespread soaker VERY much needed for those parts
Rain blowing up in SA right on cue, wet morning and day for much of Vic great event
But yeah if the upper trough was amplifyig and not falling over WOW at the rain we could of had with this.
REGARDLESS still a big widespread rain event for Vic with possiblely a months worth of rain falling in 6 hours in parts of W and NW Vic which will be UNREAL for crops in the ground
Getting really gusty up here atm. Got a flight to Canberra just before lunch which will be a bit of a white knuckle ride
Fantastic falls back through SA. Plenty of spots in the mid north/flinders close to a months worth of rain already. Be great for the country and farmers up there. Some amazing DPs with spots showing values in the 14-16 range. Will now spread similar totals across northern Vic. This event will be worth heaps - I recall being told that croppers need about 150mm of rain for a wheat crop. This should deliver about 1/4 to 1/5 of that for many spots
Still thinking about 20mm here.
Only downer will be in the alps where this will wash the ski season out. Will be little snow left by Thursday.
Storms more to our SW as usual. Interesting to see Mildura at 21c at 7:00am. This is one tropical airmass. Not surprising since it was 36c in Wyndham WA yesterday (where this air is coming from).
Rumbles earlier, 6mm and ticking over here. Widespread non mountainous gravity wave clouds above Victoria at the moment, the Jet stream is going into overdrive
A quick 2mm with that first burst in FC. Now waiting for the rainband proper. At the airport ATM where the lee rainshadow is obvious with a patch of bright white surrounded by a ring of grey.
Just a stunning set up. Expect plenty of records to be set across daily high rainfalls, high mins, high maxs and high humidity. A few tidbits I've spotted in a quick scan.
Late-season heat records at Oodnadatta Airport in SA 31.6C and at Giles in WA 29.4C, 62 year of data. Record high June minimum at Alice Springs 21.8C. Record daily rainfall for Port August 31.6mm. Near miss on the Darwin June record and Australian June record (both about 1C).
It's been backbuilding the whole morning here, giving me 3mm so far. According to the radar, 10km up the road is dry, thanks to that hole. Interesting...
