This constant drizzle has been magic. Pretty much been going for a few hours now.
I'm just shaking my head in disbelief at the rainfall totals you guys are posting. Our totals are pretty much on par with the CBD & Laverton (a tad over 100mm for the year, 55mm for the month).
Hard to believe when places such as Ballarat & Gordon are at least 3 times our monthly total.
Caroline Springs, Melbourne's meteorological boredom zone.
Great winter's day with drizzle and fog. Nice and soaking out east with another 9mm since I emptied the gauge about 6am this morning which will go into June's total. That makes our event total about 90mm. A chance now to crack the 100mm for a week/an event.
Fog in the Dandenongs has been very very thick. With the air-mass now quite mild a 100% RH makes for very thick fog.
Next system only a couple of days out, so some quick top up Then we could get a beaut long weekend.
Periods of drizzle and light showers overnight put us just over the 100 mark for May, with 102mm. Wintry day again today, with drizzle and fog for much of the day, and 3mm so far. Still drizzling and 8.8c. Looks like it will continue for a while longer - love this kind of damp weather.

Well what a month! Our coldest May max. since 2000, our best May snowfall since 2000, and with another 5.5mm to 9am, our wettest month (any month) in 22 years here: 201 mm! A barely believable turnaround from our driest Jan-April, when just 62mm fell.
Still puts us a bit behind (263mm ytd) our end of May average of 283mm, but remarkable to be even close thanks to over 8 inches of rain in a month.
Wow, that’s a great result Gordon. You’ve clearly been in the sweet spot this month

Still fog and drizzle here. Has started to go southerly which will dry it out now. Not expecting a lot more.
Check out the monthly rainfall percentage. Crazy distribution, going southeast from the Mallee you go DRY, WET, dry, wet, DRY, WET. Can’t recall such a wierd distribution over such a small distance. Even a couple of spots saw May records, while Melbourne’s catchments had quite a dry one.

Yes very lucky snowfall, like once in 20 years lucky. Just seemed to be in right in line for rainband after rainband.
Couple more mms in the gauge overnight. There’s a sneaky trough to our southwest atm, so could well be another burst of showers later today (though these things are subtle). Just over 90mm for the event, which makes it the best here since we scored 160mm in late November. Most welcome. Hope it keeps coming.
We’re about 110mm below average here YTD with about 370mm (a big improvement on end of April when we were ~130mm below average with about 200mm). Would like a big June please
An improvement here too, but still way down on the YTD average. We’re sitting on just over 170mm, which is about 90mm below the YTD average. Definitely hoping for a good June!
Went for a walk down at the Lerderderg gorge yesterday, and the Lerderderg river is still bone dry, even the summer swimming water holes have no water in them.
