Hotter in parts of Tas than here. Was humid, but got nowhere near 36 despite a 36 in Ferny Creek. Anywhere near the bay has been hugging a pocket of cooler, more humid air. Shame there's no trigger to make use of these conditions. Wow what a time to make that journey. I dont know how people cope in the country where it is really hot.jimmyay wrote: ↑Tue Jan 15, 2019 10:56 pm Drove back down from Byron Bay inland via Tamworth and Wagga Wagga through to Shepparton and back to Melbourne over the last couple of days. Searing heat - temp on car thermometer read 42+ most of the way once over the ranges inland and 45 degrees just outside Wagga last night. The heat is extraordinary inland, all the more so given that 2 weeks ago when we drove up it was much the same! The coastal fringe has been thankfully cooler but as soon as you are outside that, it’s absolutely roasting. Wonder if this will continue as we go towards feb and extend? The hot air mass just seems to keep building.
Looks like some cloud and monsoon type weather will develop towards the end of this week, which may help end the cycle, or at least disrupt it. Still, it's all fairly weak, so vast areas of the country will see clear skies, ergo a lot of thermal radiation.jimmyay wrote: ↑Tue Jan 15, 2019 10:56 pm Drove back down from Byron Bay inland via Tamworth and Wagga Wagga through to Shepparton and back to Melbourne over the last couple of days. Yet another summer where the only thing that is saving Vic is that lack of wind These heatwaves which roll on for weeks are becoming such a feature of our summer, with a semi-permanent heat low setting up over inland southeast Australia. These never used to happen (the northwest Australia heat low is well known, but not one in the southeast).JasmineStorm wrote: ↑Wed Jan 16, 2019 7:22 am A couple of 40's in a row here, maybe another one today. Not quite the 2013 heat level but getting close.
First negative SAM since early November at the moment. Ominous signal for the next 10 days for a strong frontal system squeezing the pressure gradient. EC projecting a serious code red next Thursday http://www.theaustralianweatherforum.co ... 57#p108457
