Just home to see 42.4mm on the AWS with another 2.8mm till midnight yesterday. I have walked to the nursing home in rain many a time before but have not seen the streams of water cascading down the footpaths as there was late morning today.
Great thundery showers popping up at the moment. In the northeast, a storm just north of Euroa looks a bit nasty. Wouldn't be surprised to see a bit of damage under that, signs of some rotational movement (shear is very supportive up that way).
Edit - 5:23pm: It's weakened now, the Euroa cell.

To use horse racing terminology - I am the last one home by a long way - still on 1mm lol
And the dust is dry again!
Similar terminology, the partner had Ventura Storm in the nursing home resident's cup sweep. I did suggest at least the name was appropriate considering the weather.

Oh. That’s rotten luck. I see the usual wetter spots such as Kinglake, Mt Saint Leonard and Marysville all struggled. Progs were tending to show two peaks near east central and again in the northeast so did pretty well in the end splitting the totals.
We passed 50mm for the day with that mid arvo storm, or 54mm for the event. On the very top end of what I thought we might get.
Quite a strong front mid arvo tomorrow which will introduce some cold air. Could well be the odd coldies, bit of small hail and snow to around 1000m, perhaps a tad lower. Might even see the odd wet sleet shower or some graupel here.
So what a eventful day of rain and storms, copped a good amount of HEAVY RAINFALL and above what the BoM where expecting of 30mm. Got 34.4mm out here in Wantirna South according to the Scoresby AWS. 37mm down the road at the Knox Retarding Basin. Unfortunately as said in this thread throughout the event it was HIT and MISS for some as models jostled for where the best falls were going to occur. Originally it looked to be to the north of Melbourne but then was the other way around and in the Melbourne Metro area that saw the HEAVY RAINFALL leading to chaos and FLASH FLOODING and some structural damage. While parts of Northern VIC and mainly parts of North central VIC missed out. A few Thunderstorms some severe this afternoon may have also produced HEAVY FALLS over parts of Northern VIC and parts of North central VIC and moved out over the ranges which then picked up close to the 30-50mm as forecasted. As noted well done to the BoM for putting trust into there own Hi-res ACCESS-C model and issuing the SWW for HEAVY RAINFALL and ACCESS-R model. If this is to go by anything then it looks like some parts of drought ravaged far western NSW may see some decent rain with the ACCESS-R indicating 40mm in Bourke which to some farmers would be hugely welcomed rain. This likely to unfold into the afternoon tomorrow and starting as early as a few hours time. Anyway I off to bed. Looks to be some scattered coldies tommorow with local thunder and small hail nothing more then a typical winter day in Melbourne. So unless anything interesting happens. It all eyes on the next weather event which is likely sometime early next week. In the meantime it is goodnight everyone
A very welcome 43mm. Lots of the inner-city drains were blocked with rubbish and leaves, clearing out for the first time in a while. Quite surprised to see the lower Yarra reach minor flooding after the few hours of local heavy rain, something you more often see in the metro creeks. Similar rates occurred in the Maribrynong and it didn't budge much compared to the Yarra, must be to do with the catchment surfaces.
Total totals will be near 60 this evening around Melbourne. The difference of the bay surface temp and 850 hPa will be between 16 to 20c. Some decent cold convection is a good chance with rumbles and possible water spouts
Cold convective cells sparking in SW Vic. Polar trough nearing coastal SW Vic. Always interesting seeing these types of troughs hit the mainland at a warm time of year.
Cool one today, only reaching 13.8c. Might have to pop the heating on later! Lots of showers on the radar, but they've managed to dodge us so far, so no rainfall here today.
11.3C today which definitely felt winters after the recent warm and humid conditions. We did manage to split the showers, with just 0.4mm in the gauge. They are pretty sparse and radar is overdoing it with bright banding.
Should be a cold one tonight, with likely frost inland. Showers in the south but continuing hit miss.
