TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST

Severe Thunderstorm Warning
for HEAVY RAINFALL and LARGE HAILSTONES
For people in Central, East Gippsland, North East, West and South Gippsland and parts of South West, Northern Country and North Central Forecast Districts.

Issued at 12:49 pm Friday, 17 November 2017.
Weather Situation:
Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Seymour, Geelong, Melbourne, Wodonga, Wangaratta, Traralgon and Bairnsdale.
The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees.
* Keep clear of creeks and storm drains.
* Don't drive, ride or walk through flood water.
* Be aware that in fire affected areas, rainfall run-off into waterways may contain debris such as ash, soil, trees and rocks.
* Be alert that in areas recently affected by fires, heavy rainfall increases the potential for landslides and debris across roads.
* Stay indoors if possible.
* Avoid using the phone during the storm.
* If you are outside, avoid sheltering under trees
* Listen to the radio for storm updates
* Switch off your computer and electrical appliances

The next warning is due to be issued by 3:50 pm.
If severe thunderstorms develop in the Melbourne Area, a more detailed Severe Thunderstorm Warning will be issued to people in this area.
Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 217. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.

Give me a good NW to SE moving storm any day. Don't like these NE-SW moving storms that die off the ranges then reform further south. This must be what it feels like living in the western suburbs. :? Good viewing, however, some crip Cu's.

Dry in the Dandenongs, we need a proper drop of rain.

Boy do I wish I were at my house in south gippsland... Foster getting absolutely hammered by hail at the moment. Very rare for storms to be that intense down there. Hope Melb gets something decent.

Bit of a cell coming in towards me although it looks like its drifting a bit to the East.
Some distant thunder from it.

Yep, it is every weather enthusiast worst nightmare being stuck living in this hellhole. That's why I have the other place down at Phillip Island. ;)

That's one decent cell down at Wonthaggi. :o

Can see convection occurring now over Metro area. Unfortunately from my standpoint they are forming over me and not dropping anything and I'm a very frustrated man. Those in the inner South-East: Enjoy, this may be the last hurrah!

EDIT// that being said of course, there's always tomorrow!

Yes Hunter we just received a la Ninaesque tropical downpour here which delivered more in 10 min (est. 10mm +) than all yesterday. Some shots of that large cell that veered west of the bay about noon.

A quick 6mm at home in about 10 minutes. Lots of crack/bangs. Looks most impressive moving south now over the burbs. All very hit miss - the AWS just 2km from us is on 2mm.

Second cell coming from near Coldstream which might add to the total.
