Good call JS. Just wandered down to grab this. Semi whiteout conditions at times here presently. Very heavy rain. Might last 10 mins.

Lovely snows pic Mac.

Nice pic! Down to 4C here and still raining - should be close to snow yet again for Macedonian, although perhaps not quite cold enough to settle?

Great shot Blackie. Some decent lift on the gust front, amplifed beautifully around Melbourne. Had a few mil up here.

Most impressive system for the month in Ferny Creek (well rain/cloud wise) and I've been tied up all day in meetings and being a good parent (with the mum away :o ).

14mm in FC and still coming down heavily. Should crack 20mm before it passes, which I think will be the wettest day for about 2 months for us. Temperature dropped quickly into the 5's but has steadied so not likely to see sleet.

Great pick by GFS which picked the wave on the front and the period of heavy rain on the front peaking pretty close to Melbourne's east. Other models didn't do so well (IMHO).

Cloud looked great coming across the city.

Few more showers tomorrow, so keeps things slowly ticking over. We're still well short of the monthly average in central Vic, but trying to get there with lots of raindays.

> EDIT Just passed 15mm. Unbelievable but this is the highest fall in Ferny Creek in 4 months. That is just crazy for us. I must admit the number of raindays which has been quite high has somewhat concealled the fact that we are just getting so few proper falls.

Where on earth did this come from?

Wasn't expecting any rain for over a week, then see this ominous looking cloud starting to cross over on the way home. Hasn't stopped raining since. Not heavy, but the best in a while.

8.6mm at the nearest AWS. Finally a half-decent drop of rain, enough to get soaked on the way home. Been very lean the past few months.

A reasonable drop of rain here too, with 8.8mm. Not our highest, as we've had a few very good falls this month, but more than I expected for today. Currently 6c, but dropped to 4.8c during the rain. I see more showers are streaming into the SE suburbs. Not sure if we'll see anything more here tonight.

19mm in the gauge this morning. MTD is ~100mm, so still 30mm to our long-term average (August is our wettest month of the year).

Few showers likely this arvo and somewhat unstable so couldn't rule out the odd rumble and small hail. Sounding suggests tops could make it to about 15,000 feet so quite chunky convection for winter.

Weak fronts showing up for Sat/Sun and then Tue/Wed. Not a lot in them.

For something completely different, watch out for a possible run at the Australian record high maximum temperature today in NW WA (current record is 40.0C 27 August 1970 Kalumburu Mission). Was a 38.7C yesterday, with a number of stations setting records in the region.

11.5mm's in the 24 hours to 9am here. The highest daily total since the 24th of April.
MTD is now 67.2mm's (ave 78mm's) may still fall short of the monthly average as
not much rain is expected in the last week of the month.

Quite concerning the temp spikes and lack of rainfall in many parts of Australia
If things don't change soon we could have significant bushfires in very early summer even late spring

8.5mm with last night's front brings us to 76mm mtd - within striking distance of our August average of 82mm.

Probably a lot to do with the lack of cloudbands because of the current +ve IOD set up. Watch the Indonesian through-flow from the warm Pacific ocean in the East in the coming months to have an influence in NW Australia.

4th highest on record, so looks like a near miss. Also not quite an early season record (that is 39.8C).

Victorians are going to get a shock when we go into a long-fetch NWly :o

Few chunky showers around town, but somehow missed FC. Couple been quite heavy and looked thundery, but haven't seen any flashes.

1.4mm here today, with a few solid but brief showers. Looks like a couple of days of mostly dry weather ahead, and probably not much more rain for the rest of the month.

Another decent frost this morning (-1 degC). When the AAO goes +ve, that's what happens here, along with the disappearance of rain. That's probably not a bad thing as many of the crops are a bit wet right now, especially in the Wimmera. Hopefully some good finishing rains in about a month or so.
