After the brief interruption Sun/Mon, stunning spring weather has returned. Loving the sun and high teens in Melb today, so nice out with the smell of Spring in the air.
More of the same til about Sunday/Monday, temps may even get over 20. Ahead of the front on Sun/Mon some very warm air for this time of year maybe dragged down with temp near mid 20's
Enjoying this springlike spell and getting lots of work done. Need to make hay while the sun shines as the models seem to be firming on a much cooler and unsettled spell next week.
I hope that there is a drop or two of rain left for us. Dams are half full.
Canola is flowering but there is no height to it, as for the rest of the crops,
next week will tell how well they recover if at all.
Hoping for spring rains otherwise summer is going to be a worry
WOW... Melbourne Olympic Park (new site) running at more than 3 degrees lower than the old site. Currently 19.4 at old site, but 15.9 at new site. MASSIVE difference. I'm in the city right now and it certainly feels like 16, and not 19.
Strange one today. Clear and sunny here up on the hill as it usually is above the fog, and even down in the Yarra Valley out to Millgrove it cleared early this morning and was a sunny day. But I was back up on the hill in Olinda this afternoon and had no view at all over the eastern suburbs down to the CBD. The bay must be having an effect on the Melbourne area in this set up, as it is unusual for it to be clear in the valley and foggy around the city.
I was at Willamstown pier taking some pics for John's weather channel, it was noticeably colder when I got out of the car and you could feel the humidity was higher but I put it down just being near the coast/water. The horizion towards the east was murky and hazy but that was due to pollution but the skies were entirely blue this was at 5:10pm at 5:15pm you could see there were some patches of very low cloud to the south I said to my friend wow that may be sea fog coming in, a min after I could see the bank of it behind these few patches and in 5 minutes flat the sky went from being entirely blue to grey and visibility below 100 metres! It was incredible, in 37 years of weather I can never recall such a quick transition of weather changing so quickly in such a short amount of time. The temperature dropped from 15c to 10-11c in 10 minutes just amazing to see and feel. It felt like dawn rather than 530pm in the afternoon, it was like something out of Europe/London. It be interesting to see if today it may happen again? The set up is very similar.
Apologies for the poor quality of the photo (old cheap camera), but this has been the view all week from Olinda, looking across Kallista to the eastern suburbs and down to Mornington. Nothing visible except a sea of dense fog down below.
That photo reminds me of my Eden Park (Whittlesea) days Geoff. Our property was fairly high up & sat above the fog & frost during winter. The descent on the road with my bike of a morning used to be quite interesting to say the least.
The past two mornings have certainly been a bit usual with the fog. Thank god most of my cycling trip is on off road dedicated lanes.
Caroline Springs, Melbourne's meteorological boredom zone.
I knew the 20 degree spell wouldn't last for the duration that was forecast. In the end the setup isn't right. Sunday could and probably will be quite pleasant and "warm", except for the wind part.
