Interesting connection hillybilly - I remember the October 1993 floods very well.
Not that there's any necessary relationship between this 'Non-Nino' event and October 1993, but the Hume Highway was cut and Lake Eildon was spilling at (from memory) 120,000 ML/d - almost the equivalent volume of Lake Cairn Curran going over the wall every 24 hrs
. It was floodlit and quite a spectacle. To this day I haven't seen flooding like it on several other north-east streams.
Large areas of Victoria ended up with above average to very much above average rainfall, though 1994 was dry.
