Squally WNW/NW windchange here just as windy as the Northerlies earlier infact StKilda harbour has just had 100kmh wind gust with the windchange at 315pm
baro seems to still be falling in the far SW of the state so should ramp up again tonight
Peak gust in Moorabbin was a mere 83km..no major damage
Now the suns out !!
tipping a line of severe storms will develop later this afternoon into the night, look at that sat pic!!! Will go bonkers! Should fuel the car and go for a drive west.
Well it was a big blow for sure, but no worse than any others we get up here about half a dozen times a year on average. A few trees down and lots of branches and general tree debris everywhere, you get used to it after a while. 10 minutes of moderate rain just cleared through and should be a lovely end to the day before....???
Non event for here, had a period of strong winds from 1pm-2pm but nothing to get excited about and certainly nothing to bring down trees etc. Sounds like the south copped the most severe stuff today, great to hear no injuries, but we wait for the next lot tonight and I think it might be the stronger winds for us here. Not much rain in it here, 1-2mm.
47 Knots at Horsham at 6pm wind gusts stronger than any peak wind gusts with the 1st system there. Southern parts of the Mallee close to 40 knot wind gusts in the past 45 mins also stronger than any peak winds with the 1st system that way & they (The BOM) have cancelled the SWW for that area .. Unreal
Looking like a fair chance with this next front coming in ontop of the low in the SW of the state. Wild winds are set to step it up a notch for southern Victoria tonight and if you thought it was strong today, well get set for tonight.
Wild winds are moving through Western areas presently, up to 100kmh in many parts at the moment, that will push into Central areas by 8pm and Melbourne area probably more likely around 10pm tonight and really stepping it up with a band of showers and storms closer to midnight.
Tomorrow is going to very nasty, wild winds with showers in the morning, easing for a period around the middle of the day and then picking up to storm force again during the evening ahead of the strongest front of all tomorrow night into Friday. More storms are likely.
10mm possible overnight with the band of showers and storms closer to midnight.
Friday/Saturday now looking very useful in terms of rainfall in the usual wet spots with strong winds persisting. Local hail and thunderstorms about and snowfalls redeveloping. Could see snowfalls up to 20cm over southern resorts.
After that, Sunday looks the best time to get out.
But first the focus tonight is on those winds, and it will be a powerful system and likely to bring widespread tree damage which could damage property.
Locally here, the winds at around 115pm were some of the strongest I have seen in such a long time. Lots of trees down and uprooted locally, snapped halfway up. Winds to 110kmh were probably felt in the FTG, Knox and Rowville areas with that virga band at lunch.
More of that tonight. Keep it here tonight and will keep you posted!
