Above average temps doesn't really mean drought or less rainfall, that is just my opinion. I'm actually looking forward to a nice warm spring to see all the trees bloom after a lot of winter rain. And spring is a clash of winter and summer so more heat means more storms ey?
Remarkable how quickly it chilled tonight, down to 4.6c already, could well see a wee frost tonight as long as it stays clear. 3.8mm in the last 24hrs, my back yard is still completely waterlogged and my sookie dog keeps peeing on the path instead of the grass so she wont get her paws wet!
Brilliantly clear skies as well, clearly see the milk way tonight at my place
Slightly off topic, but I was reading the official Macedonian (in Europe for those who don't know) weather website before and apparently the equal hottest minimum temperature on Earth ever has been recorded in Death Valley USA last thursday...wait for it... 41.2c. On the same day it got to 53.3. The average temp for that day was 47.5c which is the hottest daily ever.
Crazy stuff.
I'm going to Macedonia on Saturday for a month. I'll be sure to post pics of summer storms.boy are they massive over there.
It's also starting to look promising around the 29th as well Anthony, a long way out yet but at least -4C at 850hpa looking likely...hugely dissapointing so far this winter in terms of the lack of super strong cold fronts, if this one on the 29-30th doesn't come off then the change of seasons will start to cruel any really strong fronts with low-level snow coming through.Can you imagine what the 10th of August 2005 cold front could have done if happened in mid-July that year!!?

Enjoy the trip, will keep a eye on what Dandy North experiences in that time, hopefully something other than what we have been having these past days.
I would cast doubt on the Death Valley news as this link will show vastly different recordings, 53°C was the all time high in 1972, http://www.weather.com/weather/monthly/USCA0286" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The temp got down to 8C a while ago but now it has shot up over 10C here and it looks like many other places have shot up above 10C. If tomorrow is clear with light winds expect a mild day with temps around 15C/17C but it is most likely to be more cloudy thanks to that front clipping the south in this case expect around 13C/15C with the cloud rapidly clearing by the afternoon and winds dieing off aswell.
Melbourne CBD is doing a good impersonation of Death Valley today: hottest place in the state (apart from Bairnsdale) at present with temps around 15 - 16 degC. At least Sydney's weather station is moderated by the harbour on its doorstep.
Ummm, wait till you guys see the GFS tonight from 168 hours to 384 hours.
Its what i have been saying all along starting to eventuate. And in about 4 or 5 weeks i think we are going to plungs into the depths of winter not seen for a long while.
