Weather Webcams

Post by Blackee »

For those interested in what the weather is doing live, you can watch it using the following webcam links.
Note that I have placed the coastal watch website under each state as they cover a wide range of beaches.
I have also added the Brisbane Storm Chasers webcam page in NSW & QLD.
I will continue to update this page when I come across suitable webcams.

If you have any please feel free to post here and I will move and label them under the appropriate state.

Hi Sniper, i find the following Australian Antarctic Division Webcams interesting:

Macquarie Island : http://www.aad.gov.au/asset/webcams/macca/default.asp

Mawson Station : http://www.aad.gov.au/asset/webcams/mawson/default.asp

The sites show current weather conditions, & you often see penguins & seals at Macquarie Island.

I also found the following world weather cam useful: http://www.earthtv.com/en/camera-location

Many cities from around the world are clickable, & you get the observed conditions etc.

All cams are now user controllable. No registration required, you get 1.30 min a go and if no one else is waiting, you can control the cam for ever. The usual features, tilt, pan, zoom, about 180 degrees coveragre laterally and from your feet to about 30 degrees above the horizon.

Fawkner Beacon has its own cam now! Its a ripper. I hope they can maintain it because the FB AWS has the unenviable reputation of going off line whenever the wind blows. maybe it gets submerged, who knows!

Station Pier has its own cam now too. The bay is well covered for storms now, We can also see out past the heads and to the north east of melb and a bit of the north west.

All cams are some form of high definition and stream really well, although they time out too quickly and you have to refresh the page. There is another problem, control of the cam is limited to a maximum of 10 in the queue, so if you really want to see something that is not showing, you would have to keep clicking like you were trying to buy tickets to Pink.
