The main Melbourne forecast has dropped the “possibility severe” thunderstorms from its latest forecast… yet a possibly dangerous one is moving in from the west…

I took this photo whilst fishing yesterday of one of the storms that hit Lara around 5pm.. I had a few phone calls from the concerned wife asking whether I was coming back in or not..
What could possibly go wrong? :) Spectacular pic!

I see that latest STW rates the Bannockburn storm as very dangerous, and it is indeed forecast to move east, even slightly ENE.

there is where i feel concerned its mostly automated...and in these situations highlight how manual intervention and updating regularly is important

Yep, that storm could do anything from collapsing over Werribee to consolidating and moving right over the CBD and eastern suburbs. Very volatile indeed. Could end up being a long track supercell.

Edit: just looked out my west-facing window here in Box Hill and that thing looks like something you’d see over Texas in spring. A massive anvil covering the south-west horizon. Careful what you wish for…

It does somewhat, mature part being obscured here by huge new growth on its north side

10 bucks says the bay will kill it before it gets to the other side, and then redevelop in some unheard of forest town 100km to the east of Melbourne
