Fascinating system developing. The cold pool is just moving up on Melbourne now, and the trailing rainband is a warm front on the backside. Temperatures up here in the Nongs are falling quickly ahead of the rain - dropped from 6C to 2.9C in the last two hours. Expecting it to snow shortly
This system is like that in August 2008 which was a short sharp cold pool with strong diabatic cooling under the precip bands.

Amazing, now please snow in Truganina...
Our elevation is far to low, wishful thinking though.
In my 65 years of living in Wyndham, nearly all of which were in Werribee, it has only snowed once. That was in the late 1960s and it melted as soon as it hit the ground. Still it would be such a novelty to report snow in an observation.

As nice as it is to get more snow here, the extraordinary thing is that Rokewood/ Cressy snow. That pic I posted earlier (third one after the Otways pics) is at the entrance to Rokewood at 12.09pm today - and Rokewood is a mere 179m asl! Absolute blizzard with 50 cent flakes, settling and 0C on the car thermometer.
While I realise proper snow occasionally falls even lower in Vic, that is by far the lowest I've ever seen settling snow myself.
Snow cleared here leaving a light cover on the car and plants. Not quite cold enough to settle on the grass. Chilly one for spring with a min of 1.3C mid arvo. Didn’t expect us to get snow today, so a nice surprise Was big flakes coming down thick for about an hour so a decent event.
Clearing for a while now, but showers will surge again tomorrow which looks like being a wet day. Persistent swly warm air advection that will add up on the slopes and south.
Scored just on 10mm since 9am so event up to about 25mm. Only need 70mm to my monthly average
Well that was a nice surprise! It snowed heavily here for about an hour in the mid-afternoon and settled on the ground. The temp dropped to exactly 0c.
Great to hear all the snow reports around the place. Wasn’t at all expecting this today!
Decent band of rain here the last couple of hours. Scored about 10mm so far, and still coming down with thick fog and gusty winds. MTD trying hard to catch up to where it should be, and now just shy of 70mm. Still need about 60mm to score the monthly average. A bit over 20mm since this time yesterday in the gauge. Wasn’t up to see it but suspect it snowed again here for a period around 3am. We had 5mm or so and the temperature dropped into the 2s.
A cold wet one ahead. Winds are going to go more westerly again as the day goes on ahead of one more trough about this time tomorrow.
