Quite a prolonged period of sun here, temp briefly touched 8 but starting to rain now and expect a pretty rapid drop

I was shocked to see both Parwan Creek and Little River were bone dry where the Bacchus/Geelong road crosses them. Such a dry area.
Parwan Creek is mostly always dry now... only flows after really heavy rain. I’ve only lived here for 6 years but the locals tell me it used to flow a lot more frequently in the past.

Remarkable obs southwest of Melbourne ATM with Sheoaks dropping to 0.6C :o Would put snow down to below 200m.

Fingers and toes are crossed for a white arvo up here. Currently 4.5C with an icy looking sky.

Seeing photos of heavy snow in Ballarat. Wow... this is delivering snow well below what you would normally expect. Must be strong cooling below the bands with low dewpoints and persistent precip.

Temp has dropped to 6c and it's raining. It does have that 'just melted snow' texture to it.

Yeah even the clouds have that winter snow cloud look about them.

Remarkable obs at the moment, even colder than the system that came through in August.

Are we likely to see this sort of this temp in the metro area this afternoon anf evening, or will it go around us and dissipate?

Imagine snow showers at sea level 2 times in a year, or widespread snow showers in general.

Now that would make 2020 feel a lot better

Just back from a very eventful trans-Otways drive home. When we saw snowflakes in the rain at sea level, decided it was time to make a dash for it over the mountains. Barely made it, with trees and branches falling under the weight of snow and almost blocking the road - fortunately, a fellow driver a few cars ahead had a chainsaw!

Snow followed me home, absolutely dumping at Cressy to Rokewood, which would be less than 300m asl. Temp 0C - there at midday - yes really!

Now snowing heavily here! Will keep updating

Sister-in-law reports it is snowing at Ballan. She sent photos and a video in case we didn't believe her :D
