hillybilly wrote: Fri Jan 31, 2020 5:36 pm Putrid day out there. Since when do you have 43C, dumping rainstorm then, 40C in Melbourne? This is just getting silly TBH. In the not seen before stakes, today is the first day on which Melbourne, Canberra and Hobart have all reached 40C. It would have also been a record hot day in Canberra (if not for the heatwave a couple of weeks back).

Progs starting to get jump. Heavy falls west, but can't agree on central and east. Feels like we could get 5 or 50mm. This is the pattern showing up back in SA with big falls next to near zero falls :?
All I can say is that whats going to hit, isnt even a blip on the radar yet.

BOM seem to think the system will peter out fairly significantly by the time it passes over the ranges to the east of Melbourne. That said, there remains a fairly incredible amount of moisture for this system to draw on and it cannot be ruled out that the system will have retained a lot of its strength by the time it gets to Melbourne.

Just a matter of watching and waiting. Definitely way too early to interpret a bit of a wobble and uncertainty in the models to mean this will be a fizzer for central areas.

Will the front have enough oomph to push it east, that’s the question.. If not, it’s all going to slip south and end up in the trade winds :(

The atmosphere is sodden. It would be a damn waste if it doesn’t at least unload over western areas.

Wait and see

Screw this heat. Sweaty and vile. Hopefully we get some storms to cool it down a bit.

Wouldn’t discount it. The wind was crazy in Docklands with the storm. Easy 40 knots. Looked like snow it was so wind driven.

Never seen anything like it.

Had a few rumbling cells here with a couple of attempts at rain. All high based splats.

Hoping tomorrow delivers as today has hammered the garden despite all the rain this month. Not wilted, just scorching.

Yeah Fawkner Beacon wouldn't be far off, you was intense here.

Had the house opened up and knocked over all my indoor plants, she packed a punch!

Tidbit from a Friend...

The Fawkner Beacon gust is the equal second-strongest on record in the Melbourne area. The highest (154 km/h at Laverton on 14 January 1985) was also on an extremely hot day (43.7 there).

Prefrontal trough has pushed through here and a chilly 24C :P

Radar is starting to get interesting for Vic.

Yes BOM did tweet that Fawkner gust, though it's gone from the current 'examples' in the STW.

A few spots here so far; best part is the temp dropping in to the 20s about 8pm and staying there. Was a ridiculous 37C at 6pm!

Feeling very muggy outside - currently 22.0/18.6c. Have had a few heavy showers, but they’re moving quickly so they have only amounted to 2.6mm.

Adelaide is already on 21mm, with some more heavy stuff on its way.
