VIC - Solid spring front and possible brief cut off: November 26 2019

Post by hillybilly »

More classic spring system showing up with a bit of tropical moisture getting caught by a sharp front on Tuesday. Warm Monday, hot in the north, coming up. Showers and storms then for Tuesday, which could add up in the usual spots. Will get quite chilly in the cold air, so could be some light snow about the peaks. The front eventually cuts off but races into the Tasman Sea so not long lived. Another interesting sequence showing up later in the week so next thread shouldn’t be too long :D

Latest GFS suggests a very wet day next Saturday for Tasmania (especially East) and southern Victoria.

Synoptics look promising, but the forecasts don't just yet.

November's starting to feel like its conking out a bit, so hopefully we see something

We're probably looking at around 10mm in the coming week. Total Fire Ban today though with a dry NWly...

Bit of a southern Dandenongs special with an unstable nwly flow. 7mm in the gauge and 8mm on our local AWS. Should be a good drop out east and northeast, which is really needed with a number of big fires burning. Campaign fires in November is wrong :o

Will get chilly uppers as the day goes on with chance for the odd flurry in the alps.

Btw up in Canberra atm. It is so dry once you get north of the city. Brown and yellow the whole way. Here’s a shot on the side of Mt Majura at about 700m. Driest I have seen it. They have had 357mm YTD (and Melbourne has had 359mm).

Current temperature at Mt William is 1.7C, with precipitation. I'd call that very close to snow at only 1150 metres.

6C here; another remarkable cold burst for out topsy-turvy November.

Well that was a fizzer. Just a couple of drops of rain and that's it. Fail.

4.5mm here, not remarkable but it does bring us to 78mm mtd and within 2.5mm of our November average, so if Friday night/ Saturday morning delivers, we might just get there.

Cold day; I've barely seen double figures on the thermometer yet! Nice little cover of snow at Falls, Hotham and Dinner Plain, to keep November's 'snowfall per week' pattern ticking over :) .

Chilly day in the Dandenongs with a max of just 11C but managed to miss almost every shower. A nice line passed just east of us with 5-10mm only 2-5km away, but just a mm for us. Event delivered 8mm for us in the end, which is a bit disappointing. Still MTD is over 130mm, so about 15mm above the long term average :D

Patchy falls with a few spots like the outer Yarra and central Gippsland up to about Omeo doing quite well, but other missing out. Moisture starved and too fast moving to really deliver. Solid snow fall in the Snowies, while Canberra got zilch, and a significant fire burns on the south Coast of NSW :o

Next event only a couple of days out and looks like being a long lived LWT with a series of strong front. Good for southern and mountain areas of Vic, but bad fire weather further north, new thread time :?:

Quite a productive day here with several heavy showers, including hail at times. Managed 18.6mm. Quite wintry with a max of around 13c and gusty winds.

18c max yesterday and a near record low temp this late into the year thus morning (just 2.5c).

November 2019 will be colder than average, despite the record high temp last week...
