On a side note - be careful around the gum trees at the moment. The change from hot to cool is seeing limbs fall off even when there is no wind. We had one fall on our chook shed and completely destroy it. (Chickens survived) I had another almost fall on me today at work - about 2 metres from where I was standing. Trees are drought stressed.

Same around Bacchus Marsh, a lot of semi mature gum trees are looking very sick atm.
Remarkably low pressure this morning with barometer on 992hPa. Very strong low just to our south, but moisture starved with minimal feed from the tropics. Shame as in normal circumstances this one would have been a good rain producer for us.
Showers currently hugging the coast, slowly moving inland. Otways and South Gippsland will do quite well, but it will taper quickly as you go inland. Thinking 5-10mm in the Dandenongs, which will be a welcome little follow-up ahead of a warm to hot weekend.
Quick 9mm in FC. Bit more than I expected:) Cold now with a temperature below 10C. MTD is near 45mm so tracking pretty well. Garden is very appreciative.
Some impressive wind gusts showing up in the higher elevations as the front pushes north. Hotham and Falls both gone over 100km/hr. These are getting close to the highest February gusts in the last twenty years. Seriously lucky this is a cool system for us This summer is ticking all the boxes for wierd
Not so good across NSW where a big dust storm has developed, and fires are running in the north of the state I’m currently flying out of Sydney and the sky is milky brown in colour
Here’s a photo from near Canberra (Virgin WiFi is great)...
3.3mm here today and a couple of mm on Saturday. Not a lot but still good to have a bit of follow up to last week’s rain. Apart from a hot day on Sunday, looks like no nasty heat waves over the next week. Lovely and cool now - currently 12c.
Down to a chilly 6.8C here. Wood fire is on (good way to burn those branches that fall off during summer).
Decent showers passing just south of here atm so may get a bit more today. Over 40mm at Wilsons Prom, and Hotham down to -3C (coldest in Vic since 2008) which shows what a cracking summer system this has been for Vic (though sadly moisture starved inland).
Btw social media is flooded with “is that summer”. Um... I hope so, but years like 2008 where it was cool for nearly ten days in February and then March turned in a stinker come to mind
As if! Summer wont let go that easily. It will probably hang around and wreck the autumn foliage like it has over the last few years.
Brisk here this morning, 4.2C
Home- "Shepherd's Bush" at Mt Macedon. 870m
Work- "Bolobek" at Macedon. 430m
Watch summer continue into April like it has for the past 10 years. It definitely feels like it has a habit now of being Hot in January, milder in February, then back to hot in March and very warm in the first half of April.
