I would choose Melbourne everytime!!
I would choose Sydney for the weather (warmer, more storms) & Melbourne for everything else.
Currently at Windy Hill watching the EDFL division 2 GF. Ground is certainly living up to its name. Impossible to kick into that wind, and it's bitterly cold. Not much rain so far.
Caroline Springs, Melbourne's meteorological boredom zone.
Two hail showers and one with thunder here. Temp 7. Showers are sparse and short lived so far. That satpic doesn't seem to reflect this. That's an impressive cold air field pushing into 5 states and a territory!
Chilly afternoon. It was almost 16c at 4am, then down to 3c at 2pm. Currently 5c. We've had 6.1mm so far. Showers have been heavy but fairly brief, with sleet earlier today and a hail shower. Some strong wind gusts with a couple of the showers - maximum gust today 55km/h.
Ofcourse Melbourne is better than Sydney. Just 24 hours ago we were sitting on 21 degrees, and yet the car thermometer is showing me it's currently 5.0 on the Main street of Cranbourne.
Best snowfalls of the year here today; on and off from around midday we had more snow than rain or sleet - finally ending up with a light, white cover on dark.
I was beginning to think 2018 might be our first year of no settled snow for a while, but we scraped in!

Good!
You didnt get any settling through winter?
Home- "Shepherd's Bush" at Mt Macedon. 870m
Work- "Bolobek" at Macedon. 430m
Incredibly, today saw a watch and act message issued (still in place as I type in fact) for a fire in East Gippsland while the snow level dropped to around 400m in Western Victoria. Not looking forward to tomorrow as I have to take part in an adopt-a-road at 9:30am, brrrrr.
