Short lived system with a rapidly moving trough. The main wind change comes through late Tuesday, but the whole period will see showers and high winds. Already gusting to near 100km/hr in parts of Melbourne and out west. Airmass is pretty typical for winter, but wind chills will be feral
Wind is picking up and the band of rain crossing the city looks like it is intensifying. Was not expecting rain til later, going to mess up the synthetic turf laying.
Always a chance but anything that forms will be moving at a fair pace. The satpic has stuff just shooting through the bight like it is on a conveyor belt from south of WA. .
Terrible wind here again for hours on end - branches and loose objects flying everywhere. Suspect it must be fairly localised though as, besides the general SWW, it's fairly quiet out there .
I don't have a reliable way of measuring these things, but this July feels like an exceptionally bad one for our area for damaging winds.
Windy in the Dandenongs but short of previous blows so not too bad thus far. Seems to be picking up - though - so perhaps worse to come???
0.2mm in the gauge and a fairly typical July max of 9.1C for us. Radar looks impressive with rain inbound, but anticipate a lot will got missing as it comes down from the ranges. The air mass is horribly dry (again) in the low levels which is really robbing us of rain. Feels quite El Nino like now, even if the indicators don't all agree
Same here Strato light to good moderate rain
Sometimes like this it keeps appearing on the radar to the north west
As long as it doesn't move through too quick to the east we
might do ok

That's what we've had most of the day! Wondering why it was so silent everywhere else but looks like the gales finally travelled the 100-odd km to Melbourne. Weird!
Pretty heavy rain here and wind seems to have eventually eased a bit with it.
Polar jet is currently interacting with the sub tropical jet over Melbourne, giving a kick to the trough and amplifying rain in the Macedon Ranges. Always beware of the interacting jets
Dry air below the cloud layer is allowing the high winds to mix down with the evaporating rain. Similar set up to the nasty fire storm weather that hit western Vic in the evening back in March but 20C cooler. Has gone feral here, but no crashes outside amongst the tree and powers still on so good so far.
Looks like another rainfall bust here. Would guess a couple of mms of evaporation today and just 0.2mm of rain. Progs over did rain here again today which has happened a lot of times this year
Howling gale and alternating rain/ sleet/snow here tonight. A smidge to warm for sustained snow but it's definitely trying.
It must have been marvellously snowy here before the climate warmed.
