Welcome PapaD. Good to have someone from your area. Interesting weather spot on the north side of Macedon. Did you score any flurries today?
Ballarat ended up with its coldest July day ever.
Bit of an odd one that they’ve had a 3.2C in May (1977), but their July record is 4.4C which they equaled today. The max on Mt Dandenong was just 2.4C that day in 1977 with snow all day (apparently). Kinda shows we’ve been a bit short-changed in mid winter in recent years (or that the May event was off the scale ).
Rain lifting into NSW now. Expect we could get a decent frost tonight with dry air in place and very light southeast winds which are holding the katabatic wind down. Showers coming in from the east tomorrow, but it expect they will struggle to get here. Maybe some showers on the bay.
I see Ballarat's maximum of 4.4 was at 8am, before the 9am reset. If it doesn't go above this temp by 9am tomorrow, then won't that in fact beat the previous 4.4 record?

Thanks. I wasn't around during the day unfortunately. Got a nice bit of rain this evening though.

That May 1977 event was off-the-scale. Equal coldest May day in Melb CBD too and snow flurries around Bendigo if I recall correctly: http://www.weather-climate.com/coldmay.pdf
Temp here is 5c and there's still light rain. 13mm in the gauge.
If the skies clear tonight, there's a good chance of black ice mayhem in the morning....

Missed that quirk.
Meteogram has around 3 or 4C at 9am so should hold too.
4hours of constant light snow tonight. Strangely not much settling, about half a cm on garden beds, table etc but absolutely none sticking to plants and trees. Right on 0C now.

Dropped to 3C here (fast last night) then stalled. May have been a frost, but about 4am moister air moved in from the east (could almost call it "warm" frontal) and the DP jumped. We've now just had a shower from that band moving east to west. Temp was 3.5C but no sleet or snow spotted (the RH is about 100% so very marginal temps for icy stuff).
Looks like the low is starting to spin near the NSW South Coast. There is a little trough extending all the way to near the Otways which should be the focus of some showers. This looks to sit south of Melbourne, but will be close. Heavier falls in East Gippsland which is good for them.
I'll add a couple of days the thread to capture this clearing phase.
Got down to Walkerville (swinging past Sandy Point, Waratah Bay and Inverloch) this week. Got lots of photos of the storm damage from this event (with the big tides on the weekend) and the event about two weeks back. In total went to about 10 different beaches - at every one the impact was substantial. It must have got very close to flooding houses in Inverloch where a lot of houses sit low behind a small sand dune.
I find the way these weather events impact the coast interesting... I've been visiting many of these spots for years and the coast is steadily moving inland (which is what you expect when you are raising sea levels).
And it's official - yesterday was the coldest day in Bendigo since July 1996, and the coldest July day in Ballarat since 1957 (when reliable temp records at current site began).
Very surprising to see cold overnight temperatures with so much cloud cover. Some cold pool that is.
Currently 6.6 here with a maximum of 6.7 an hour ago.
Showers moving in, so not expecting temperatures to move much now. I'm sure some warm front will appear from nowhere and lift it up to 12 degrees as it usually does

Quite a significant event for parts of Vic.

Cold one in FC with a min of 3C and max of 5.9C. That’s the sixth day in a row below 8C for us so quite an impressive run. Showers inbound but anticipate they’ll fall apart before getting here.
Cold one this morning too. Got down to 1.3c and a maximum (briefly) today of 10c. Had 6mm in the rain last night. The odd shower passing through the area this evening and currently 7.1c.

I had 10C at work in Macedon as well.
Very close to Melbournes max of 11.5C
They mustve been under cloud or something.
0.0C to 4.4C max at my place at Mt Macedon with still a bit of snow here and there when i arrived home from work.
Good cold winter weather up here.
