Totals so far are a bit underwhelming. 3mm here. The north looks great on the radar, but so far totals are all pretty light :?

It should start thickening up in the next few hours. The uppers are wierd ATM with a double jet over Vic providing uplift in northern Vic and then again in southern Vic, but inbetween it's messy. The jets should merge and become more NW in the coming few hours, which will see the rainfall focus more in central and eastern areas (well at least that's how it should happen :P ).

Now up to 4.5mm. Rather windy and mild too.

GFS reckons 50mm+ for the next week with a Upper Low on Sunday night in the mix.

Still quite lackluster..

Feels like it's been 5pm all day with how dreary it's been.

Heavy showers developing on the southwest coast now as the second part comes into play. Meanwhile the northeast ranges are racing towards 50mm since 9am.

Just been outside and it's mild almost warm. Feels like a rainy night in October or November out there :o

Btw quite a few heat records in SA and NSW today. Crazy seeing lots of 30s in August.

Longer term models look showery.

Everyone has summed up the day well. 9mm so far here.

Complicated little set up tonight. I think it's going to get quite wet to the NE, East and SE of Melbourne this evening. Here is my 2 cents worth :)

Struggling to read the radar atm.. Not liking the usual gap/hole over central areas (which is becoming a theme these days).

Watered the garden in prospect of nothing.

Another typical pathetic system for this neck of the woods. Virtually zero recorded here today, and absolutely nothing to get excited about in the not too distant future either.

The wind is absolutely roaring through the trees out there this evening, so not expecting much if any rain until it dies down considerably.
it's rained on and off most of the day here, but so light and spotty we've only had about 4mm so far.

Rain seems to be ramping up here. Closing in on 10mm so far today.

Believe it or not our YTD rainfall is above average.

Gap. Gap. Bloody gap. Getting sick of this. It better fill in and rain tonight, otherwise I'm going to give the sky a good talking to.

Lots of lightning and thunder here with a genuine microburst of sorts. Swirling heavy rain and very strong winds. Too bad its dark and it is hard to take footage.

Geez that was a dud in central areas. 8mm for us in FC, but that almost as good as it got. Whole area from Melbourne west to about Hamilton picked the gap between the two jets. Couldn't make that up. Huge tropical infeed and we find ourselves in the gap between the two regions of uplift.

Fantastic falls in the north and along the coast.... but all rain in the alps. This must be one of the biggest August rain events on record up there. In the Snowies Perisher has had 145mm of rain. That's more than the off the scale rain event last year in July which gave them about 140mm (but some of that was snow :? ).

Showers now for a few days. Lost a bit of confidence in the models given they all had 25mm+ for central Vic yesterday and the average was probably about 1/10th of that :o

Progs still touch and go for low level snow (below 600m) on Friday night. Is a bit marginal, but looks like we could well get a bit of sleet or some flurries in the Dandenongs.

7 mm here, but I was working about 10 km away yesterday evening (near Lal Lal) and we had an absolute deluge - I'm guessing an inch at least so the odd higher localised total no doubt.

The resorts will be relieved to see that the rain has turned to snow!

Ive had about 24mm since sunday arvo at mine. Not bad but considering all the model hype i was expecting more.
That 145mm at Perisher and temps in the positive must surely have destroyed their snow cover? Imagine if it hadve fallen as snow.

Only 2.7mm here. I was expecting to be rainshadowed given the setup, but was still hoping for a bit more.
