Looking forward to some serious storm action tomorrow
Bye the way things are looking dire for Fiji with Cyclone Yasa at major category 5 strength
Not looking good, and this comes after/during the economic downturn relating to covid.
Prospects look better for us re. storms tomorrow, but EC has them favouring gippy, so I expect zilch.
Frustrating system and indeed week. Watching so many bands of rain and storms in eastern Australia but zilch here so far. Woken to sit and fog this morning.
Today is our best chance, but doesn’t look great. Showers and storms central and east from mid arvo. Worried about the lack of northerly in the low levels to keep a sea breeze out. That said, the steering is NWly so will push in from the northwest.
There’s quite a strong front for overnight with very moist low levels. Looks very showery/drizzly in the south overnight. Wouldn’t be surprised if we snuck 15mm here from that, though it will thin out away from the coast and ranges.
The troughs are stuck over us now for ten days or more. It’s a heat trough that keeps wiggling back and forth. It deepens on Monday and could get quite showery for two days. The north will stay warm to hot. South mainly warm and quite humid.
0.5mm here in the wind last night. Warm damp and light NNE wind here atm. If surface trough roughly between Ararat and Stawell doesn't move we might be in business. Likely it will, initiation here and lots of fun to the east perhaps?
Kerang - 35mm
Bet Bet - 93mm (that seems an incredible isolated total - Dunolly got 21mm incidentally) I'm questioning it too because Bet Bet Creek nearby did not register any stream rise. Strange.
4.8mm's of Rain overnight, 10mm's at Ballarat Airport.
My Mtd is 21mm's the airport 16.4mm's. Ave for the month is 50mm's.
Humid and sunny for most of this morning but convective cloud
building now. Might get something later, fingers crossed.
Latest skew-t indicates fairly unstable conditions in Melbourne this afternoon, but nothing too crazy. Forecasts for storms today got increasingly marginal in the last 48 hours.
Starting to look like development to my ESE (by a fair distance). Will be some decent storms eastward today, not super hopeful for central. Hope for 1 or 2mm of mizzle tonight if not bagging a shower this arvo.
Edit: Actually pretty solid development to my SSW as well
