Mild to warm, then some rain: 22-26 Feb

Post by Gordon »

At least a small a break in the pattern as our weird February continues. (I mean weird in a good way :)!)

After more unseasonal cold (and drizzle) today, looks like a couple of pleasant days ahead before rain or showers return with a trough Monday-Wednesday. Models favour the east, but looks as if a little rain may drift into west-central; maybe even a bit beyond.

Progs look ok, but not quite as exciting as the last event :(

Showers and storms on Monday and Tuesday follows by cooler days Wednesday and Thursday with some showers in the south. Looks like 10-20mm for much of Vic east of about Melbourne. Further west and north not quite as much.

Instability and humidity looks encouraging.

Strong monsoon low or TC meanwhile takes a slow meandering route across northern Australia. They need the rain up there with a very feeble wet season so far.

Yeah, been watching them from up here this arvo. Didn’t look that interesting early, but been building through the late arvo. Quite a nice line, and showing up on radar. There is quite a convergence between a sea breeze and a humid northeasterly flow.

GFS builds the activity through the evening, with it sitting almost stationary in a line from about the Wimmera to South Gippsland. It barely budges the next 48 hours. Could be some moderate to locally heavy falls under it.

Looking at the amateur network there are a few sites showing rain under that band with the best 14mm near Officer. With small slowing moving cells and high dew-points will be very hit miss.

Just got a quick shower of fat drops here. Just 0.2mm, perhaps 0.4mm. No rumbles, but felt that way.

Some nice steady rain out there if you are in the right spot. Very tight line though.

0.4mm in the gauge this morning from the couple of arvo showers. Bit of a frustrating day with a bit of instability but lots of mid level murk capping things. Got one brief heavy shower, but most passed to our south. Warm to hot and humid. Popped up to 25C here which is about 30C at sea level.

Yep, at Warragul too. Been watching it develop all day. Some unusual bird calls this morning, not even sure what bird it was but the Currawongs were replying. Hoping for a bit of storm action tomorrow.

If this lot slides just south of us again (as it has most of the day) I will be a little bit grumpy!

I got nothing at work last Thursday, or when I got home. While I was at work, home was slammed by >20 cgs. My son said there were gunshots every few seconds. That made me REALLY grumpy!

Home to 3.2mm in the PWS.

Have been to Benalla today for a funeral, low 30s°C this afternoon which certainly felt warm but ok but oh so dry especially when one sees the lush green we have around here.

Another 0.4mm in the Nongs overnight with light rain and fog. Very humid with DP stuck in the mid to high teens.

Chance of a storm or shower again this arvo.

Pretty decent SWly front for tomorrow. Wouldn't be surprised if we see locally 5-10mm in coastal parts and about south facing parts of the ranges. Be good to get a bit of a top up for the garden with a long humid warm/hot spell showing up in the progs.
