Heavy rain in the CBD down and viz right down. This will add up quickly.
The eastern burbs are starting to fill in nicely on radar while the showers in the cold air part of this developing low are moving up on Mt Gambier. Quite the classic mid latitude cyclogenesis. Not often you get this type of system in mid February, but when you do the very warm ocean temperatures mean that are very effective rain producers.
This from BOM twitter a couple of hours ago (my bold):
'Storms moving across #Melbourne atm. This pattern will continue throughout the day today: storms moving through, periods of quieter weather, then more storms developing.
The most significant storms are likely around 4-6pm.'
Will these storms be associated with what we can see on the radar moving up through the southwest, or will they form up in the clear air between the two bands?
