I left work at Wantirna South at 3.30: sunny and smoke was a lot less compared to the last 2 days.

Got to cranbourne West 2 minutes ago, very dark clouds, 34 degrees and thick smoke, with distant thunder.

Been a while since I've seen skies like this on a very hot day. Now waiting for the rain. Seems like it will take a while to get here but hopefully something develops overhead. Worried those storms out West won't keep their intensity.

Constant thunder and lightning.

Haven't had this in years its absolutely constant. Radar seems to be massively overestimating here, im under green and yellow but it's barely spitting.

This thunder is absolutely incredible though. Holy sh*t!

The show has started here at work. Just saw one massive bolt with constant thunder & heavy rain just started falling. :D

Radar filling in nicely around the west. Lightning and thunder but no rain yet. Slight green tinge to my SW (hail?) but could be wrong. Ready to unleash rain here 😀

Lovely loud, wet storm now just clearing Bendigo. My guess around 20mm in the CBD

The focus of intensity appears to be north of the CBD, or the CBD itself

Still constant down here, radar is mental!

Smoke just increased tenfold for whatever reason also. Strange arvo!

Looks like the airport is closed.

Flightradar24 showing a lot of grounded planes and holding patterns in the air.

Smoke gone now. Remarkable that 20mm fell a kilometre away, and just 3mm here. Perhaps more with round two now 40km out West?

Damn, if its peak ferocity unleashed over the burbs instead of over the bay it would've been insane. Still a good drop though
