Thick smoke has just enveloped Lancefield within the last hour. Could this be from the fires in NSW?
Yep, all NSW smoke. Stinky up here in the Dandenongs. Another one of those new age hot days where it’s searing hot, the humidity is moderate (precip water values around 25mm) and winds quite light. All driven by a southeast Australian heat low, that subsequently parks over NSW for much of the next week. We never used to get these, but they are semi permanent feature in summer in summer now

This message is being issued for smoke across the State of Victoria.
You will see or smell smoke across parts of the State of Victoria.
Smoke in the Hume region is as a result of fires in New South Wales.
Smoke in Gippsland region is as a result of fires currently burning in Gippsland.
Light winds are likely to mean that smoke continues to impact air quality until Saturday morning.
Keith at 48.8C. Could get close to 50C. The current number would clearly be the hottest temperature recorded that far south in any month. That is horrific for December.
Hopetoun's 47.4C is a new Vic record for December. Would expect about 49 to 50C given there is still a couple of hours of heating to go
really odd out, rather quiet with few birds tweeing or traffic or other noise, slight breeze and everythings a weird red color with the sun filtering through the smoke
