VIC - Cold week with occasional showers: June 18-22 2019

Post by hillybilly »

New thread for the week ahead which will see a strong (though moisture starved) front on Tuesday usher in a cold week with showers and mountain snow. Best of it will be in the usual wet spots (Otways, Yarra Ranges, South Gippsland) with not a lot inland. Uppers are cold so snow will fall below the alps, though not likely to drop to the town level (save perhaps for Trentham which might be a chance). Also quite cold overnight with fairly light winds so some decent frosts.

This could well be the last event for the month looking at EC so hopefully this one delivers (and next week looks positively balmy for mid winter :? ).

Looks like a blocking pattern to me after this front. We needed the rain to be continuous all winter to make up the shortfall but not looking the case. We were bound to get a block at some point.

A few dribbles overnight, but not enough to tip the gauge. Looks to have been about 0.1mm.

Wet day ahead, though radar is a bit feeble ATM. I need 34mm to get to average, so hoping to be surprised (EC suggests 15mm give or take).

Going to be a cold week for us. Latest EC suggests a max of around 6C for Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday :D

2.5mm here so far; looks okay for east Central, which would be good - we've had a decent run here.

Supposedly zero or below here every night for the next several - Macedonian if you do get snow, it probably won't melt in a hurry!

Can definitely see clouds dropping snow from Tullamarine. I'd expect small hail this arvo in Melbourne and surrounds

Nothing much to report here, just a few light showers this morning and only had a few drops from the band of showers moving through Melbourne now.

Just your typical rainband, but still 5mm is welcome. Quite damp around here now with many, many, many puddles

Complete dud in FC splitting showers to our north/south/east and west. Was expecting 10mm, but only 3.2mm so far today for us :( MTD about 70mm, and not feeling too confident we will get to average from this point (about 100mm). System is clearly moisture starved with plenty of virga and low DPs and showing lots of bright banding, so totals away from the coast and higher ranges are lean and radar overstimating.

Hoping to see a swly stream develop overnight, to top totals up.

EC is sneaking some cold air over us on Wed/Thur which could deliver some lower level snow from later tomorrow. Latest EC meteogram is showing some sleet/snow showers in the Dandenongs now.

Just 2.1mm here. I haven’t looked yet but I suspect the better falls slid to our south today. It’s quite cold though - currently 5.5c.

Sneaked the edge of a coldie. 2mm of graupel in quick time. Temperature sat on 5C. Feels like it should be colder given the ferocity of the shower.

Another one inbound, maybe.

Just 3km south of here has now had 12mm after scoring three coldies in a row. 5mm here now.
