Observations for yesterday, Thursday January 12th 2012

Most of the country was clear and sunny, except for parts of the coasts of Liguria, parts of southern Piedmont, parts of southern Lombardy, parts of western Emilia, and parts of northern Tuscany. These clouds only brought some drizzle to the Genoa area.

I really should try and keep this up for this week, with the predicted cold snap on its way!

Forecasts for today, Monday 30th January 2012
Cold air that brought heavy snow to the Northwest, will head into the western Mediterranean and then move towards Sicily and the Ionian Sea, where rainfall is expected to be heavy, even quite stormy. Brighter, however, in the Northeast and central Tyrrhenian regions. Still mostly cloudy over other parts of the country with rain in southern and central Adriatic regions, the far South and Islands, particularly heavy between Sicily and Calabria. Snow level down to about 400-600 meters in the central Apennines, 800-1200 m in the mountains of the South and Islands. By evening, more snow in the Northwest, in the Piedmont plain.
Heavy seas in the Tyrrhenian Sea, as well as the area of Giglio island, where waves will be up to two meters. Also heavy seas in the Ionian Sea and the Sicily Channel.

Temperatures almost everywhere in decline. Much colder in the North and Adriatic regions, accentuated by cold easterly winds. The situation will worsen during the week with the arrival of cold air from Siberia, first for the North and then also to Central Southern regions.
