Re: Change of season 23 Aug – 3 Sept

Post by hillybilly »

Milder cloudy morning in FC with puffs of wind keeping the temperature up a bit. Bit of rain today, but be surprised if we get more than 3-5mm. Tomorrow looks a bit better. The low levels today are horribly dry ahead of the incoming system. Our DP dipped to -6 earlier and is currently near -3C.

Here's a photo looking towards the sunrise this morning :D

Minimum of 1.4 this morning here with a very light frost on cars. Our minimum was at 6am, compared to other sites further north which recorded their minimums before midnight. The northerly hasn't filtered down here as yet

1.5mm from that lot so 79mm mtd and edging closer to our August average.

Looks like a lot of cloud and rain back in SA for round two, but will it hold together for us?...

A few drops here but more tomorrow morning by the looks of it. Latest Access C suggesting 10 to 15mm for here but a rain shadow for south of the range. Its hard to be confident with this system though.

Unlucky for Adelaide for this setup to go through when it did.

It resulted in their warmest August night on record at 19.2 degrees.

Bad timing

1mm here today. Less than the models suggested, which is not good :( I've often found droughts see this happen more often, so not only do you see less rain, but the weather models seem to over predict it. Not sure whether that's just a perception or real.

Bit wetter tomorrow, but not confident given how dry the low levels are.

Was a warm airmass, but yep surprised the record happened. Often comes down to the timing. We were a bit lucky that this one didn't dive south strongly as it would have been nasty for fires in those spots which are particularly dry.

11C, DP of -3C strong nwly, just 1mm in the gauge, and a pressure of 999hPa (all at 6am). Geez this one feels like an El Niño. We’ve just ticked over another below average month, so seven out of eight this year :(

Showers as the day goes on, but everyone away from the immediate coast and ranges tends to struggle when you have DPs ahead of systems which are dancing around 0C. Hoping for maybe 5mm today, but not really confident. Tomorrow looks a bit better for southern areas.

There must be a bit of rain out west. Stawell now up to 20, need that radar to fill the hole.

3mm so far, light rain at the moment. I've just hit the August 100 year average of 84mm.

Rain shadow kicking in with the radar filling in down Port Philip bay.

Darn! Just 1.5mm overnight with lots more a few km north but just not making it here. Fell short of average by 3mm.

Quite a bizarre Melbourne radar this morning :?

Close to 10mm here since it started at 7am. Constant moderate rain still and we've now passed our LTA for August (presently 89mm and rising, LTA 85mm). Appreciating every drop given the Spring climate outlook for Victoria. Temp is 7c. Friends at Buller reporting heavy snow presently.

Drizzle and fog here this morning. 1mm more in the gauge (so 8mm for the last 24 hours). Further showers today and tomorrow, but mainly coastal and ranges and not that heavy for most.

Not overly liking the week ahead. EC has dropped follow-up for us, with milder and windy weather dominating. Really need a big month, given the current deciles :o

7mm since yesterday morning. It's not looking promising for next week. Last night GFS had 30mm, now more like 10mm.
