No, not like Feb 1983. More like a brown tinged haze across the horizon. Mildura will probably cope it bad though.

Looks like more big snowfalls over the Alps this weekend. Some resorts should have over 2m of snow on the ground by Sunday afternoon.

Yes and this is the puppy delivering both. Stunning static image. Had to save it.

Max of just 7C here today which is a bit cooler than I expected. Warmer air lagging a bit, but moves in for tomorrow. Ripper front for Saturday which should be good for 10-25mm for much of Vic away from the northwest and desert plains between Melbourne and Geelong :?

Latest EC has sleet here for Sunday AM which is consistent with 850Ts getting to about -4C, or a tad cooler. Showers look a bit sparse, so thinking maybe flurries, but hope to be wrong ;)

Another week of fronts for next week.

It is a beast allright, if only it had a large moisture inflow in front of it.

As I kinda expected our cool maxima disappeared overnight. Now up to 11C. The offical maxima doesn’t happen til 9am today so may well land around 12C which is mild for here. Doesn’t surprise me that this one may bring down dust :o

Winds are furious outside. Window rattling stuff :? Had a peak of 70km/hr which is the strongest gust here for the year. This system is strong at the surface and aloft with an intense temperature gradient so will pack nasty wind gusts. Rain developing late arvo out west, and should hit melbourne early hours. Thinking about 10mm here overnight.

850Ta still looks like touching -4C which is typically snow to 500m, but showers do look pretty sparse with the coldest air :(

Thats warm overnight HB. I was expecting the same thing. I was down to 3C by midnight, it spiked to 4.5 by 3.3am but then fell again and still falling 2.7C now. Weird that we are experiencing such a difference.

Trentham and Hesket both in the 3s, so it is much chillier over this side of town.

More disgusting pathetic windy conditions here, so over it. It's been probably the worst winter I've ever experienced, nothing but wind, wind, and more bloody wind! :cussing: :cussing:

Not windy here yet. Just a moderate breeze from the NE.

AAO has been rather -ve of late, hence the wild Westerlies, strong cold fronts, big snowfalls, and a dry Melbourne. Perth has been lapping it up (wettest start to August since 1945):

Beautiful day here at work, sun in shining and the birds are singing as they go flying past at about 100 miles an hour. :sccary: Expected incidents starting to clock up on the emergency sites, trees down and building damage as expected. Looking forward to the rain tomorrow, we need more of it.

Davis weather station wind gust so far is 64km/h here.

But i just took my kestrel 4000 out a few minutes ago and got a spot gust of 86km/h out in the open.

There will be major problems today if these sustained high winds continue.

Non mountainous gravity wave clouds appearing between the 2 air masses. It is really cranking aloft.
