Yes JS, and the front is thickening up and backbuilding nicely as it crosses the bay. Just reaching us here now at 3.45pm and looking good for a few hours rain now. 7.3C.

Looked good on radar but a bit ho hum at the surface. Rained here for nearly 3 hours for a total of 6mm. Nice chilly day with a max of 7.2C. Last week of the month hasn't been too bad for us with 28mm since Saturday saving a bit what would have been a most dismal month.

MTD about 56mm here which would be about decile 1 and half average. Still we've done well, with much of the state tracking lowest on record or thereabouts :?

Hoping we get a wet month for July...

Btw uppers do dip very low tonight touching -4C at 850hPa. That's low enough for sleet here if there are showers. If the clouds clear it will drop like a rock. Saturday morning looks very cold, with cool uppers, big high, low humidity and dry dry soils for most of Vic.

> Had a heavy hail shower a few minutes back. Added another mm to the total. Feels like winter out there :P

Spot on about the clearing cloud HB. A break in the clouds here the last half hour has allowed the temp to plummet from 9 to about 6 degrees.

Interesting, remember on Page 1 of this thread I posted the EC chart from 20th June showing a snow symbol for tonight for our area.

And with a few showers moving up now there could well be some sleet for the Dandenongs.

Geoff I do remember you mentioning the snow symbol. I had a small chuckle then, but who's laughing now?

3.7C ATM with the odd shower. Was a bit of graupel in the last one... but they pack minimal punch. 9.4mm for the last 36 hours. MTD looks like finishing on (about) 55mm... will add up tonight.

Cold day ahead and even colder night. Will be a cracking frost for much of Vic for tomorrow morning. 2C forecast for the city, which would usually mean widespread -2 to 0C in the suburbs.

Looking at the observations, it was the coldest around this area last night from all of metro Melbourne (including Coldstream). 2.9 at home and 0.7 at friend's place in Cranbourne South.

4.6mm of rain, brings my monthly total to 27.2mm

Ended up with 5mm for the month. i reckon 2mm of that was dew. Definitely unprecedented for here.

Got down to 1c this morning, light frost. Now for the super frost tonight, how low will it go :?

Pretty big call by the bom, forecasting potentially the coldest night in the CBD in almost 20 years. 1.4 is the one to beat from 1998.

Bom forecasting just 1 degree for the cbd tomorrow

Hillybilly will be getting excited with possible records ahead!
BOM going for -1C for Mt Dandenong which almost certainly won't happen except in sheltered frost hollows up here. We've only had one proper frost at our place in the last eleven years, but the tree nursery down below us is quite often white with frost on clear winter mornings. :)

Taking bets now! Will it fall to 1 or won't it in the CBD? Love to see a zero but we're a bit cursed in that department.

Going to be a cracking frost for most tonight. Dropping like a rock inland and sheltered spots in the south.
Hillybilly will be getting excited with possible records ahead!
Suspect plenty of sites will come close, but few if any with long records. Place to watch is southern NSW where a few sites are forecast to get very close. OCF has 2C for Melbourne so the official forecast is a bit below the models. Be interesting to see how it goes. The city hasn't been subzero since the 1980s. The new site is a little chillier than the old one so could well get there under the very best conditions.

One record we have set is highest June pressure on record for southern Australia, which is why it's been so crazy dry for most :?

6.7C here for a max today so on the chillier side. Now 4C with the katabatic balancing the radiative cooling. Thinking we should see maybe 1 or 2C here overnight which would mean a decent frost below the middle of our block (my weather station is close to the top where it is flat but exposed).

Next week looks encouraging for more winter weather.
