MORE RAIN TO COME !!
Looks like north east NSW is in for more rain in the coming days with many rivers at risk of flooding

Here is an extract from this article
Quote:
"There's a long list of new river systems affected by potential flooding in the coming days," Mr Campbell said.

"The biggest concern for us coming in late tomorrow and Thursday will be the Macleay River, where there is the potential for moderate to major flooding.

"There's also the potential for major flooding around the Orara River behind Coffs Harbour, affecting several rural properties.

"Things could ramp again from late tomorrow."

BREAKING NEWS RE: FLOODING IN Northern NSW

EVACUATIONS

A detailed article on the severe flooding
Read more: http://www.news.com.au/top-stories/floo ... z1LbTJhGLR" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

EVACUATIONS are under way in northern New South Wales as rising floodwaters threaten to cut off towns. Thousands of residents have been told to leave.

The region has been hammered with 250mm of rain overnight, and the town of Wee Waa is completely isolated.

At Moree, both the Mehi and Gwydir rivers are predicted to peak tomorrow morning, matching or exceeding the 10.6m levels reached in the February 1976 flood.

About 1600 residents in Moree and 80 people in nearby Biniguy have been ordered to leave their homes immediately as the Mehi and Gwydir rivers continue to rise to levels not seen since the 1970s.

Evacuating

* Moree - 1600 people being evacuated to south Moree as the town prepares to be cut in half by 3pm (AEDT) today.
* Biniguy - 80 people being evacuated.
* Pallamallawa - 600 people being airlifted to safety.

Isolated

* Wee-Waa - 2500 residents have been cut off by rising floodwaters.

On standby to evacuate

* Croki and Manning Point - About 260 residents are likely to be evacuated later today, as the Manning River continues to rise.
* Evacuation warnings are also in place for 60 properties on the Wingham Peninsula, 40 properties in Taree and 19 properties in Barraba.

Residents are being advised to evacuate to south Moree, where evacuation centres have been set up at the town hall and the PCYC.

Flood potential for NSW coast
Brett Dutschke, Sunday April 15, 2012 - 10:11 EST

The run of favourable washing weather has come to an end with the New South Wales coast in for a wet week, potentially well over 100 millimetres, leading to flooding.

It may turn out to be the wettest week since July last year or even March last year, when many roads, homes and properties were inundated.

Showers are already falling on the north coast and are becoming more frequent as a low pressure trough forms over the region.

Over the coming days this trough will deepen just offshore and slide slowly south, taking long-lasting bursts of showers with it.

A developing low pressure trough will funnel moisture from the warmer-than-average seas just offshore and generate areas of heavy rain on the coast.

The system is showing some similarities to one in March last year, which dumped flooding rain from the Hunter to the South Coast over three-to-five days. During this time more than 400mm of rain fell in parts of the Illawarra and South Coast and more 200mm in parts of Sydney, the Central Coast and Hunter. Wollongong had its heaviest rain in 20 years, gaining about 250mm in just 24 hours.

This week's trough system should bring falls in excess of 100mm to an area from the Queensland border to about Bega between Monday and next weekend. There's a good chance for isolated falls of well over 200mm.

Some drying out will occur, initially in the north and later in the south, but it won't be long before rain returns.

Another trough is likely to move in from the west later on the weekend or early next week, but rain from this system is likely to be relatively brief and favour inland areas.

Found 22.2mm in the gauge this morning which is a nice change from the dry last month (8.2mm). Woke up early to loud, heavy rain on the tin roof and surprisingly I went back to sleep, as normally I would be wide awake after that. I guess these late nights are getting to me.

Doesn't look like any rain on the horizon, but it should be nice and cool for most of the week. Max of 14c tomorrow!

Feel like it's going to be a colder morning than the last two. Already touched -0.5c just half an hour ago, and now back up to 0.0c, which is quite low this early.

Good night tonight, a little something to dampen the SDS for a while! Plenty of booming CG's to shake the windows.. and the street lights even went out once with one flang.
6.9mm from heavy rain too.
The main activity has passed but there is a storm headed from Griffith way, so may not be over yet.

We have a steady humid airmass from the NW (13c DPs at Ivanhoe and Wilcannia), unlike yesterday with the dry air edging east. Should be good for storms this afternoon.

Has been raining here for the last few hours, 9.6mm accumulated so far with more to come.

We had our 3rd coldest September morning on record, only 0.8c shy of -3.8c in 1966. The second coldest was the day after that with -3.4c.

The Young Airport and Goulburn Airport AWS stations also had their coldest September mornings on record, both with records to 1991. Young fell to -5.5c beating -4.7c, and Goulburn had a min of -7.4c beating -6.8c.

More records here.

They are very nice pictures and sorry I missed them.

Certainly a big chance of storms this weekend and into next week with some big falls likely in the area. Bit hit and miss ahead of a 40mm rain event come mid next week.

Thanks Karl! :)

I'm not too familiar with farming, but I recall the farmers wanted rain about a month ago, so they should be happy with any rain next week. I know I will be!

Max of 32.9c today and the hottest day since Feb 25th!!

Was very surprised yesterday to see a storm cell to my north, its large updraft lit with sunset colours, but with little rain or structure underneath. I did a few errands, rushed dinner and dessert and headed out on the road to Coolamon. This storm was very slow moving and produced some awesome bolts, but it was not until the cells to the west of Wagga slowly neared did the real show begin. Flashes and bolts every few seconds over most of the western horizon, the whole works, with the northern storm still putting out a few.

I don't think I've ever seen a clear air CG before, or at least taken a photo of one, but they kept coming out of this one spot in the sky and the way they flashed really quickly and then disappeared was amazing!

The best way to end a 43.5c day. Let's see what happens today.
