No fireworks, I might get up at 0200 for the meteor shwr; as sky rapidly stablising
Good call and thanks for the reminder Didj. It was cloudy here at Mansfield so no viewing. 93mm event total here so far. Ground is squelchy wet in parts, dams are full. Looks like another incoming band of moderate rain from the low that just won't go away.
6.5mm's up to 9am here takes the event total to 30.5mm's MTD 54.6mm's and YTD 660.4mm's
Yearly average is 770mm's so wont get anywhere near that.
That lightning active storm around 2.30am only gave me another 3.9mm's but once again
the heavier falls were just to my east.
That was the 4th thunder day this month here and the 23rd this year.
The Record here is 24 thunder days and that was last year, average is 18 days.
So have done all right the last 2 years as far as storms go.
May get a bit more rain today but not much I think then its a pretty boring spell of weather
coming up after all the excitement that this system has brought.
Would be great if we got a few systems like this every summer.
Rain since 9 am Sat: Gray 79mm, Little Swanport 48mm, Mathinna 38mm, Swansea 29mm, Scottsdale 18mm, Launceston 13mm, Hobart 1.8mm. It hasn't dropped below 15 degrees here in Launceston since 8 am Wednesday.
Just over 80mm for this event which is amazing for this area but 50mm of that fell in about 30 minutes on
Friday evening and that caused a lot of damage. People in a brand new house nearby had a mudslide pour over their
retaining wall and go through the house.
Stormwater drain manhole covers blew off in the streets flooding everything.
With clay soil and hilly terrain you don’t want to build at the bottom of a hill!!
Got side swiped by that storm last night, but what's new. I've been in a tiny slither of clear air with every one that has gone by. If someone is testing their antistorm laserbeam it's working, now turn it the f off
Have seen a few posts about that storm last night SE of here, replay of the radar shows a pretty impressive system.
Latest radar showing plenty of further showers developing right across west central and central areas including Melbourne area. Some of them will turn thundery. Should be an interesting afternoon!
Edit: Just heading out for lunch, sky looks fun!

Thunder and lightning here. About 1km away. And ofcourse we're due to miss out on the action here again, despite the rain coming from a different direction. Some bad luck we're having.
Can literally see it bucketing about 1km away. Sean would be happy
funny how there seems to be hotspots where it turns to storms yet passes others by.
Again down there its turning to lightning but nothing here, i was wondering if the facts its coming from the north west more like normal if things would change today.?
Last night was annoying, the lightning forming just past boronia, was very lightning active and amazing to see it swell on the infrared satellite image as if it were a bomb blast, literally it was only 40 minutes or so to form itself. Again, i cant help but wonder why it formed "there", and what the trigger was that wasnt anywhere else at that time. I do find weather fascinating, and though i moan at times when things miss I seek to understand "why" so my dissapointment is used constructively.
One things for sure this moist weather has kicked on the vegetable garden, everything grown in the last few days more than it has all month!
Found myself at the Moorabbin DFO next to the airport and just as we were walking back outside a huge cell that's been slowly creeping towards us the last hour let loose! Insane heavy rain just kept on falling with a few close bolts! The airport at 10.6mm in 10 minutes.
Its cleared out now but still throwing out the odd bit of lightning. So humid following the rain, sky still looking quite convective!
