POW! ZAP! I don't chase storms, I patiently wait for them to come to me.... Usually the soaked guy with the dry camera, atop a mountain, out of running distance from the car...

I'm still using the D3000. It's a wonderful little camera. Don't think I'll be upgrading anytime soon ( ... needs job first :P ).

I do use the 18-55mm kit lens occasionally, but I recently bought a Tamron 18-200mm lens which does the job. The extra focal length is quite handy, although there is a small amount distortion at the longer lengths, but nothing substantial.

I use my nikon 18-55mm for long shots, and a nikon 70-300mm for my lightning captures. picked it up from an electronics store for less than it is worth - $300. using the D3000, and am still getting the hang of ISO settings.

Hi Robyn. Congratulations on passing the 2500 post mark! :P

It was a rather nice sunset. I love how the light illuminated the fine cirrus cloud near the horizon, it sure makes for an interesting subject.

Halo around tonight's super moon - caused by cirrostratus cloud high in the atmosphere.

Decided on an impromptu snow chase early this afternoon. I'd seen snow before but never as precipitation, so you can imagine my excitement as the flakes plastered the wind screen on the way up.

Left at 2pm and headed for Laurel Hill. It started to rain after leaving Batlow and turned to snow around 950m. I measured 0.7c at 1000m in town around 4:30pm, and a full 2c lower above 1100m at the picnic area past the Sugar Pine Walk.

Nice captures Nathan. Did you use a wide angle for those horses. Love the blue sky there

Thanks Robyn. :)
Yes, the pic of the horses was taken with my new Tokina 11-16mm at the widest focal length.

Thanks Nathan, yes it looked like it. Wide angles make some interesting photos sometimes :) I remember back in the 60s my boyfriend (eventual husband) was a photography student and he did a portrait session with a woman and her daughter who had big noses, he used the wide angle lens to test it out. They hated the photos lol :)

Was very surprised yesterday to see a storm cell to my north, its large updraft lit with sunset colours, but with little rain or structure underneath. I did a few errands, rushed dinner and dessert and headed out on the road to Coolamon. This storm was very slow moving and produced some awesome bolts, but it was not until the cells to the west of Wagga slowly neared did the real show begin. Flashes and bolts every few seconds over most of the western horizon, the whole works, with the northern storm still putting out a few.

I don't think I've ever seen a clear air CG before, or at least taken a photo of one, but they kept coming out of this one spot in the sky and the way they flashed really quickly and then disappeared was amazing!

The best way to end a 43.5c day. Let's see what happens today.
