I am so over it.
I know, i don't know how you cope.
It is hideous but it is the new normal. We may as well throw away all the old historical data because it is irrelevant now.
Time to move to a more bearable locality. God knows where though. Certainly south of the divide in Victoria is a lot better than north.

I too would be over it by now if everyday for weeks was 35c+. I am usually over it after one day. Really hope this isn't the new normal.

A lot cooler here now. Currently 22.4c, and it actually feels slightly chilly outside. Must have become so used to the heat.

A few large gum trees around here have been dropping large limbs, I noticed a couple yesterday and a few more
down at the park this evening. I am guessing that means they are stressed?

Sorry folks, internet blew up half way through post. A flang a minute, a couple very close, not much rain with it, maybe 5mm, not good for Omeo.
When you wake up tomorrow, things might not be good.

Its the natural way they spread, drop limbs with temp change, limb falls off tree, spreads seeds, unique to gums.

Down to a comfortable 18C here now. Scored 0.2mm for those earlier storms, but missed the best of it :o waiting to,see if we can sneak a shower or two overnight. After such a frying anything is welcome.

Garden seems to have got through without any loses, but massive leaf and bark drop from gum trees and horse paddock is a dust bowl. Will have to buy in feed soon if it doesn’t rain. Our blackberries facing north all got scorched today, despite a good watering. Haven’t seen that before. Two stinkers just too much. Got no idea how farmers are coping with this as we’ve got one of the mildest wettest climates in Victoria but still getting baked :?

What a stinking couple of days and of course the period in general! Have been totally busy with the train network I haven't had much time to post on here over the last couple of days. Managed 40 degrees exactly yesterday and today reached a sweltering 43.7 degrees at 1:30pm, which is .1 degree cooler than the heat on Friday the 4th of this month.

Great seeing all the reports coming in, especially from a few new members! Keep them coming, love reading them and all the analysis, wish I had time to post more myself!

Some light showers transitioning over the southwest currently (maybe some isolated sparks too), hopefully a couple of those stretches into central parts tonight. Still hot in the north, currently 40 degrees at Albury :/

Also just another friendly reminder to keep to the topic at hand please :)

14C here this morning so half what it was this time yesterday. Trough lingers today with warm conditions in the north and east, and some showers and storms. Progs still holding good prospects for rain in the week ahead (so far).

Btw here is a photo of the pyro-cumulonimbus from Gippsland yesterday. Stunning, but horrific. Must be terrifying for those who sit in the path of a monster like this :( Yesterday always looked like a bad day for coupled fire-convection with deep unstable conditions and extreme heat. These coupled events are the ones that are most dangerous as the fire organises itself such that it efficiently sucks air, extreme spotting happens as embers rise very high, and topography ceases to be effective as a barrier (lee downhill slopes actually channel the fire front sideways rather than slowing it down). Got a good friend who is a long time firey who studies these. Apparently they were once very rare in the satellite record but now common. He puts it down to hotter days and drier fuels.
