Geez, that is very dry. Not quite as dry here, but well down on the average. Finished the month with 29.2mm, which is less than half the average. That is our driest since April, when we had the mini-drought. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like there will be much rain this week either.

We've had a few cold mornings of late (was 0 degC on Saturday morning), but no rain.

17mm for September which is our driest Sept since 2008.

Many farmers are giving up on harvesting their crops to our North - instead either cut for hay, put sheep on it, or try to get back the seed.

Interesting to see east and north east suburbs of Melbourne had their driest first 9 months of the year on record. You wouldn't think so by having a look around

Well, that was a crap month...

Managed to avoid driest on record due to a few heavy showers, but damn. This country is in some serious trouble.

This is the monthly graph that got my attention:

To have such a large part of South Eastern Australia experience record cold Sept minimum average temp this year is extraordinary!

Not surprising given how dry it's been. Farmers sure have been hit from two angles this year

Pretty ordinary month for OZ at http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/current/m ... mary.shtml

Australia's driest September on record
Rainfall very much below average nationally, and particularly low across the southern mainland
Overall, mean temperatures above average (+0.64C)
Mean maxima warmer than average for September (+1.41C), particularly in the tropics
Mean minima close to average overall (+0.13C), but very much cooler than average for much of Victoria, South Australia, and southern New South Wales

Dandenongs are looking dry now for this time of year (more like second half of December). Many of the big trees look stressed, which isn't surprising as the soils haven't wet up this year.

We can only hope that October isn’t a repeat of September, but it’s not looking good, with no obvious avenues for moisture. It’s drying off here as well. Still quite a bit of green around for the moment, but the brown is creeping in across the hills and fields. Amazing that it’s only the start of October. This usually doesn’t happen until early December. I am already watering the garden.

EC has come back a bit for the system on Wednesday with 2-10mm pretty widespread, and heavier falls into the northeast. System tends to split north and south so details will matter a lot. More significant system possible later in the weekend. Not sure I want to jinx the sequence with a thread ;)

Well we got an unexpected mm or two here in Doveton out of that last shower. Looks like there is a chance of more on the way too if you are in the right spot.
