VIC - Sequence of fronts: April 13-18 2018

Post by hillybilly »

Decent sequence of fronts and troughs showing up from about Friday PM. First system approaches the southwest late Friday moving into central areas early Saturday. There are then a series of rapidly moving troughs.

Falls looks ok for most areas, though not huge - mainly in the 10-25mm range. Better falls about the northeast ranges. Chance to get the dismal April off to a proper start :?

Temps start out well above average, but chill to a few degrees below the norm by early next week. Could see a bit of snow on the peaks, but doesn’t stay around for long.

Yeah saw that TD equals the all time April record set by Mildura yesterday.
Only reached 23.6c here in Cranbourne and 22.2c in the City thanks to sea breezes.

I need some help on how to record my maximums for the last two days. I seem to have lost my memory on how it is done.

11th April, the temp rose to 24.6 during the day at 2pm, but the next morning it shot up to 26.5 before 9am.

This means my maximum for the 11th of APril is 26.5 correct?

Yep, the maximum is 9am to 9am. Twice in the last week Melbourne’s maximum has been set in the early hours of the following day.

Progs looking very good for southern areas with consistent 15-40mm falls. Lower falls as you go north, but still probably the best event in a long time.

Wild day Saturday, and watch for a significant storm surge on Port Phillip Bay.

Bit of snow in the alps, but airmass isn’t overly cold so don’t think it will stick for long.

First time here in awhile on account of settled (boring) Victorian weather. Enjoying the never ending balmy weeks though, as worrying as it is.
Have been observing lightening from over toward Mt Buller for that last hour or so.

Light rain here, wind has just picked up to around 60 km/h. I see Kilmore gap getting up around 90 km/h now Peter :)

How bad is that Broady radar...goodness me. The 512 km Yarrawonga gives a better idea although not great.

We are at the bottom of the hill so wind not quite as bad.

Very windy here. Just some light showers so far and 0.7mm, but getting darker to my west. The radars sure are challenging today - I've been switching between the NW Tasmania and Yarrawonga ones, but only get coverage at 512km.
