Thought I heard a rumble about 30 mins ago but not sure.
BTW this time last year we were getting hammered, rain thunder
and snow in Alpine areas. My top on April 9 2017 was 14.1c

New Vic April record of 39.3c at Mildura today. Disgusting.

At least the forecast models are looking quite good for some wintry weather on Saturday.

BOM predicting a max of 37 tomorrow for Cobram. April record is 37.0 on 4 Apr 1986. Total rainfall to date this year only 34 mm. Looks like we might get a few showers on Saturday (fingers crossed).

Warm thundery unstable day, great day down at the beach lots of heavy showers lasting than a min large drops thundery was good fun classic Nov or Dec weather.

HOT in the NW 39c just crazy for April SO SO SO dry up there like 5-10mm they should be like 60-80mm now so dry and hot NEED rain in the north.

Great few days coming up in Melb the last for the season.

Winter arrives on Saturday
Bring on the heat and stroms

Walpeup is the frontrunner so far today with 38.0c at 11:30am. It wouldn't surprise me if it got over 40c there today. The only post-equinox 40c+ day I can find in the records is Walpeup on 22nd March 1998.

31.6c here ATM ..... incredible 11th April temperature for Kyneton. I'm seeing a very big high pressure ridge developing next week. The Hadley cell is moving south again and a north easterly flow is reappearing late next week. I'm seeing an April temperature record coming up :?

New Vic April record of 39.3c at Mildura today. Disgusting.
All sites in northern Vic are ahead of the old Vic record (37.8C) already. Gotta be a chance for a 40C before today ends somewhere in Vic.

Yesterday also saw the NSW April record fall at two stations Pooncarie (40.5) and Menindee (40.1).

Breaking records should be harder and harder as you get more and more years of data, but it's getting easier and easier

Across southeast OZ been an extraordinary number of records broken. This event is among the most significant we've ever seen (thankfully it ain't the second week of January with the sun having much more bite).

850T doesn't look too bad after this week, even with another High anchored permanently in the Tasman Sea - Nowhere near the 20c+ 850T we've been having. But Average max will get close to April 2005 record though.

Vic record broken again with 39.3C at Hopetoun Airport. Adelaide has just equaled it's April record.

OZ is currently tracking way ahead of April 2005 but will come back in the next two weeks (as the second half of the month is almost always cooler). I'd give it about 50:50 as to whether this month will go on to be the hottest April on record. Another big high and we probably get it, a last week cold outbreak and we avoid it.

We fell just 0.5c short of our all-time April record today. Made it to 34.3c. Gross.

In many ways the perfect setup for a heatwave - blocking ridge of high pressure down the East coast, heat building in the deserts of WA for weeks (aided by no cloudbands/cyclones from the Indian Ocean), and advected Southward by a LWT anchored off Perth. I notice that Fitzroy Crossing has had a string of 40c+ days this month, including a new April record of 42.1c.

There's a brown dust haze visible on the Western horizon here atm. What month of the year is it?

2am and it’s 26C at the top of the Dandenongs. Geez this is just crazy.

Change inbound, but rain looks likely to slip south into Bass Strait and over Tasmania.

Bizarre. I go to bed last night and it's mild, maybe a touch warm.

Wake up at 5.30 and it's 28 degrees - warmer than any time yesterday.

Sure is crazy. Went to bed last night and it was 14c. During the night the temp spiked to 27c, and currently sitting on 24c. The past week is not like any April I have ever experienced. Hopefully we get some rain on Saturday, as conditions are looking pretty dry for a good week or more following.

15 degrees at 5:30am, 25 at 7:30, now at 27. :(

Lucky the complex setup today SHOULD stop us from going above 30, although it is still a possibility.
