Not looking good down there unfortunately. It's where I grew up and went to school (Cooriemungle/Simpson/Timboon/Camperdown), plenty of friends and family being affected tonight, I just hope they are all okay! My mum and sister have evacuated to Port Campbell with other family and friends, while my dad has stayed on the farm for now. I was meant to be down there tonight but had a last minute change of plans ...

There a lot of little and big fires burning in the whole region, this wind and the subsequent change aren't going to help either.

Feral night in the SW. Those 6 emergency warnings and 5 watch and acts around midnight not great. Westerly change fairly close to those fires now.

Trough in front of it having some isolated CG's as it comes towards central areas now.

Nasty nasty night. Type of night you expect in the second week or January, not second half of March :( Expecting a lot of obscure records such as hottest at midnight, but not many overnight records as the front pushes across before 9am. Could well be more records in NSW for record maxima, particularly so late in the season.

Now just sitting and watching the radar. Not expecting a lot, but hoping for a surprise. Current batch of progs tending to show 5-10mm west and South Gippsland, 2-8 central and not much elsewhere.

Weak front to follow tomorrow arvo.

Firming that next weekend might bring some proper rain. Can’t come soon enough.

To me this is looking like what may have been, 1 - 2mm at best. Happy to be proved wrong.

Yes does look like weakening as it comes into Melbourne. On the bright side the lightning as ceased which is a good thing given the dry conditions. Tasmania is getting another good drink - we really need that over the whole state. Those fires look nasty, if it gets into the Otways it will go for weeks.

Having some gusts around 50 km/h, recorded zilch. Looks like the squall line sharpened up around north and NE of Melbourne with sparks. Going to be a fairly breezy few hours of westerlies ahead.

Down at Foster this weekend where it's been raining almost horizontal at times over the past hour and a half. Had a single CC nearby to kick it all off.

The normally lush green South Gippsland hills looking very parched after the endless weeks of no rain and baking heat.

Local AWS shows 7mm. Meanwhile nothing showing up at home.

Wilson's Prom got 15mm - what I would give for that. Perhaps the next system will inch north a little more and finally give us a decent drink. I could hear tree branches falling during the worst of the winds - you know that big crack sound them thump. We are more likely to get branches down as the hard ground is hanging onto the roots well, but branches are drought stresses. Saw one fall in complete calm a few days ago.

As HB has mentioned earlier, something might be brewing from next weekend. http://www.theaustralianweatherforum.co ... 02#p104602
