Flood Watch For Greater Melbourne Catchments (Werribee, Maribyrnong, Yarra, Dandenong And Bunyip)

Issued at 12:58 pm EST on Friday 15 September 2017
In the 24 hours to 9 am Friday, rainfall totals of up to 15mm were recorded in the Greater Melbourne catchments, with a higher isolated total of 29mm recorded at Poley Range.

A cold front approaching from the southwest will cross the State tonight and early Saturday.

Rainfall is forecast for the Greater Melbourne catchments, with totals of 15 to 30 mm possible for the rest of Friday into Saturday, with localised higher falls possible.

Catchments are wet after recent rain. The forecast rainfall is expected to cause stream rises, which may lead to areas of minor flooding developing from Saturday morning.

The Bureau of Meteorology in conjunction with Melbourne Water will continue to monitor the situation and issue catchment specific warnings if and when required.

The rain was just going crazy here, a loud crack of thunder before, and then another, that was some exciting weather

Not quite the day I was expecting (though ACCESS-R got it). 19mm in FC from a couple of thumping showers. One more in bound which should push us over the 20mm. Few rumbles around and small hail.

Front and cold air doesn't arrive til overnight so plenty more to come. Can see why this one had a Flood Watch out for it. In the Dandenongs things aren't overly wet so run off isn't the significant, but further east in the upper Yarra it's been a very wet ~6 weeks so will be strong runoff now.

Too far south for this one. Only a few light and short showers totaling about 3mm

Only a few spits here.

Good to see the city copping a decent shower for once.

Got caught in that tropical downpour in Richmond at 2:30. Hosed down and then again an hour later along with loud rumbles. Definitely spring in the air and hopefully a sign of an active storm season. Hoping the front brings a decent round two.

It's heavy, @ 2.30am
Yesterday just got in from the 3.30 pickup to a crackle and pop.
Was plenty of good lightening, sparse hail
FTG noted lots of hail and water laying in yards very quickly.
Unexpected when not keeping up with reports, but very welcome.
Edit. Sittting on 33mm for Scoresby.. :raining: :umbrella: :rainbow: :lighting:

35mm in the gauge. Best fall here since February. Our local aws is on 40mm so did even better. Great boost to the September total which is near 90mm now.

We scored a brief spell of wet snow on the backend of the last shower. Slushy flakes, consistent with the temperature dipping to 2.8C and 850Ts just a touch above -4C.

Showers look to be clearing, so maybe a touch more to come. Hoping the next one inbound fires up a bit as temperatures and still good for snow.

Just dribs and drabs here so far with 4mm overnight. Sitting on 12mm MTD which is way below average.

Good news is our water storages are close to full.

Woke up due to an absolute downpour last night. Heaviest in many months. Suns out this morning and things look quite convective, cumulus cloud tops rising nicely. Still a while out but next Saturday looks pretty stormy according to the GFS. Lifted index values of -10c and as low was -12c throughout western vic :o low level moisture isn't great however.

Severe frost here this morning. Down to -2c which won't be great from some crops.

Lots of wild swings between inland heat and polar air in the coming week. Welcome to Spring equinox!

Cold morning here but no frost that I can see with a little wind just keeping things stired up. 2.7C ATM. Looks like a nice day ahead with uppers warming quickly and plenty of sunshine.

Pretty impressive event in the end. Scored nearly 50mm for the week, two snow days a thunderstorm and a bit of hail. Also quite a bit of tree damage in the forests nearby with some mean gusts with Friday's storm.
