7.7mm so far here today. We've had a bit of everything - rain, graupel, and sleet, but no snow that I saw. It was 4c most of the day so a couple of degrees too warm. Had a great hail shower this morning that left a white dusting on the lawn though. Currently 2.8c. Might be one or two more light showers to come based on the radar.

Not over yet for me, nice shower with hail just came through. Should note the showers on the Broadmeadows radar show up somewhat weaker relative to Laverton. Melbourne airport is sitting in the 4c range with showers about to move in, interested to see any changes. Areas north of the airport are also pretty cold now so will be interested to see what precipitation they get.
Go the bombersss!

Nice frost down here this early morning. In fact it can described more as ice.

Cars covered in a white coating with weird and wonderful patterns on the windows thanks to yesterday's and last night's light showers.

Very surprised to see the temp hovering between 0 and 1 degree. These sorts of cold outbreaks usually allow it to go as low as 3 or 4 thanks to wind and cloud.

4.6C for a max yesterday so getting cold for us. We've only had a single sub-4C here in the past five years so I think it was our 2nd coldest in that period. Would have been colder if it was July, with brief warm ups between showers due to the almost spring sunshine. We had more persistent showers than the local AWS which was just a tad too far east and being north facing managed to get a couple of degrees warmer than us(usually we are more like 0.5C colder being higher). Scored about a dozen snow showers, with the heavy ones carrying graupel. Very light settling twice. In total about 1 to 2cm of snow. We had something July last year, but all fell at night.

Scored one heavy snow and graupel shower overnight, and now a solid frost. 18mm in the gauge for this front so about double most the progs (again) and makes for nearly 40mm for the thread :D About 10mm off out monthly average now, which is not absolutely out of the question.

Some clearing showers today then a little front still to sneak through on Tuesday/Wednesday.

Nice Macedonian.

95mm now for the month here, average is 84mm. BoM's dire dry and warm August prediction has missed it mark considerably in this area. That big temperature leak from the south pole in late July is still playing out with the fronts. EC has started to get excited about maybe a bigger snow dump early next week in the Macedon Ranges....

Off Topic - Houston now has a problem never recorded or seen before. The EC dooms day scenario from last Wednesday's runs is now playing out. Harvey is going to drift back into the gulf and produce a round 2 this week for Houston IMO. 1000 to 1500mm event.

And something interesting to keep an eye - I think we might be seeing a La Nina set up commencing http://www.theaustralianweatherforum.co ... 30#p101530

Observations show Mount Hotham has just had its coldest temperature on record. -10.4, compared with the old record of -10.0, recorded on 26 July 1986, the day it snowed in the CBD and at sea level coincidentally.

That only goes back to 1977. There was a -11.4 degC recorded at Hotham Heights on 15th August 1968 though.

Impressively cold airmass regardless.

Interesting what happening in the US atm looks so similar to the 2011 Queensland Floods that also stated off from a same kind of storm system.

And it would be awesome if we get a La Nina for Summer. That would mean Melbourne will have more of a chance of severe storms again!

I find it that these last days of winter are the coldest days of winter this year! I haven't felt this cold all winter.

It's playing catch up. First it started off as a very dismal winter with avergae temps and no real cold weather, and now it just lingers.

Feels like mid July, just look at the current temps and the maximums for today.
