Wow... cracking thunderstorm here with three quick flangs and now sheets of hail. Gardens white. Wouldn't rule out a flurry on the backend with temperatures dropping like a rock :D

EDIT> didn't quite make it down to snow, but temperature did drop from 10 to 4C in minutes.

Driving through that line on the Monash inbound was full on. Surprised AWS only showing 3-5 mm. Felt like a lot more than that

This next batch of clusters in central areas might drop some flurries around 700m. Maybe thundersnow in the Dandenongs :) Mt William now 0c in the Grampians

Lasted maybe 10 minutes but geez it was full on. My AWS gauge is still full of hail, so still dripping into the bucket. Looks like about 7mm all up.

Second squall inbound. Hoping for a repeat.

Last proper front push through tomorrow with a good wintery blast. 850Ts dip to around -4.5C on both GFS and EC with the freezing level falling to about 800m. Should see some decent sleet and probably snow showers here tomorrow night with the coldest air coming through with plenty of showers. Would be nice to get some settling... been so long since the last good snowfall here back in 2008 :( .
Maybe thundersnow in the Dandenongs
About a degree too warm. We have had thundersnow here three times since 2001 so can happen.

9.9mm so far today, and a band of showers currently approaching. 6.9c at the moment. I suspect it will drop a bit with this new band coming through, but probably not quite enough for sleet. I will however be on the lookout just in case!

Burst of wet slushy flakes in the backend of that squall line. Lots of rain, but flakes thrown in. All comes down to the showers intensity and downdrafts. Had nearly 9mm since 8am so adding up steadily now. Event about 20mm or thereabouts.

Picked up another 2.7mm in that last line. Down to 5c, but no sleet that I could tell.

@ SF, Just out of range. You might be a chance later on tonight for sleet. Will be interesting tomorrow when the real cold air gets in, hopefully there is moisture around when it does.

@Macedonian, lovely :)

3.8C here and showering ATM. Couldn't rule out a bit of sleet with these temps, though the showers are pretty timid ATM. Expecting a cold, wet and windy day with plenty of graupel, hail, probably sleet then a good chance of snow tonight. Temps are marginal for a good snow event here, but the precip looks good, so one of the better chances in recent years.

Wouldn't be surprised if we pick up 20 to 30mm here the next 36 hours. Even the city could do quite well for a change.

No fun so far with most showers disintegrating before making it into the metro area.

Here's hoping it's not one of 'thoooose' days

A Polar vortex trough about to launch a SW attack on central Victoria. If the moisture holds on, its going to snow low tonight :)

My 2 cents worth on the 10.30am sat pic ;)
