One close clap of thunder here as the heaviest rain arrived around 1.30am.
Yes I heard that one Geoff and there were a couple more after that. When that large rain band came over about 1.30am like you said the wind just howled up here
Rainfall until 9 am this morning in Tassie: Liawenee 35 mm, Strathbridge 34 mm, Zeehan 34 mm, Erriba 33 mm, Lorinna 26 mm, Meander 25 mm, Launceston 24 mm, Grindelwald 22 mm, Hobart 3 mm.
Next trough is now swinging into Bass strait. Should see waves of cold cells get a westerly sling shot across central Victoria from now until sunset. Coldest air is now pushing into the SW. Mt Gellibrand (261m ASL near Colac) has dropped to 6.8c.
Cold one here today but not a lot of rain. Got one heavy one mid arvo with hail and gusty winds giving nearly 3mm. Makes just over 15mm for the front, and 19mm for the thread.
Max here today of 8.4C which is about average for June, so feels cold but not that remarkable for almost June. Had to turn on the heat pump to keep the house warm.
Good dusting in the alps... looks to be around 5cm most resorts give or rake and still snowing.
Looks to be clearing now, maybe just the odd shower overnight ahead of Tuesdays front. That ones quite cold, but high follows in quick so won't deliver a lot of rain. Thinking maybe another 10mm here.
Surprised to see a lot of showers moving in a perfect direction from Bass Strait. Was thinking same as HB for a shower or two but looks likely we'll get a lot more.
Quite the storm last night including one massive bolt and simultaneous thunder which knocked the power out for about 5 hours.
Looking at the charts and sat picture for the upcoming period you can really see the effect of the positive IOD. The most obvious is the lack of NW cloud bands linking up with the fronts. Even cut off lows don't have much in feed until they get to the Tasman where they really take off.
Still, thankful for what we are getting and the big retrograding high that was forecast is not so much now with a cut off possibly sneaking in. A cut off or two can really get us through dryer periods if positioned correctly.
Wind a little too much westerly for decent showers here - down around the prom 31mm!
Squeezed 12mm out of that front, which I’m more than happy with…. making it 15mm for the thread. Now for the last front in the sequence…. hoping I can squeeze in another 5mm but that High is pushing in quite quickly. The frosts later in the week look like water pipe busters for up here.
Something is brewing between June 6th and 12th. Almost all models think a cut off low will be in the neighbourhood. Position maybe Gippsland but still a long way out. http://theaustralianweatherforum.com/fo ... 24#p100524

Yep, fortunately our meter is buried in the ground and less exposed to the cold like the old school meters which ice up around here.
It could be an interesting QBW and opening of the ski season if a cold-cored Low bombs near us....
